I can help with relationship challenges like navigating dating, love, commitment, conflict, monogamy, polyamory , infidelity, and breakups.
I specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, and attachment issues, as well as relationship, sexual, and gender issues. In our therapy relationship, you’ll experience connection, acceptance, safety, and trust; this can be healing in itself. We'll start by exploring and making sense of your challenges, compassionately and collaboratively. We can also use EMDR, guided imagery, and mindfulness to activate your mind’s natural ability to heal, going deeper than words, into realms of feeling, imagination, and focused attention. I believe you’ll find that I bring exceptional clarity, integrity, and creativity to our therapy work.

I am LGBTQIA+, sex-positive and kink, allied and work with individual adults of all gender and gender non-conforming identities as well as all relationship orientations, including ethical/consensual non-monogamy, polyamory , kink-friendly and traditional relationship dynamics.
When you recognize that your current patterns no longer serve you, telling your story in a safe space can start you on the path back to your true self. Underneath the issues that trouble you; grief, trauma, depression, stress, feeling stuck...there are opportunities for growth and positive change. It's time to reconnect with that still, soft voice inside of you that speaks to the truth of who you are; your best self. My therapeutic approach is adapted to your needs; integrating Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, and Art Therapy. I am also trained in EMDR.

Are you experiencing fear, loneliness, anger, grief, chronic illness, or pain? Maybe you're transitioning or feeling un-rooted; or, in a storm, lost or overwhelmed, anxious, and/or addicted? Our identities and perspectives are informed, in part, by how we relate to these experiences and make sense of them. Knowledge of that we call 'self' is a continual and creative process, and includes integration of the unconscious - the parts of the psyche yet unknown to us. I help clients find focus and relax preconceived notions of how healing occurs. This allows one to learn from their symptoms in order to ease suffering - to hold paradox.

Within our current cultural paradigm, many individuals face heightened levels of stress, problematic substance use, and strained relationships. Social discourse regarding drug use, gender identity, and disability can cause negative self perception and aggravate rather than alleviate these distresses. As a counselor with lived experience, I promote a critically informed, empathetic and creatively embodied therapeutic practice that can help individuals better navigate such distressing experiences while developing the insights and skills to thrive despite our collective experience within oppressive systems.

Curiosity, openness, and a belief that we all have the ability to grow, become more aligned, and be at peace with ourselves are some of my guiding values. I use an integrative approach founded on an understanding that we meet where you are and a process unfolds from there. With training in somatic and relational therapies, I incorporate body-oriented interventions when desired. Working in this way can make room for deeper connections with self and others.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.

When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?

Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.

How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?

Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
