I help individuals find and create great relationships. I only work with people one-on-one because I’m dedicated to giving you personal, in-depth support throughout your relationship journey. That could include deciding whether to stay in a challenging relationship, navigating infidelity, recovering from heartbreak after a relationship ends, learning to enjoy being single, and/or navigating dating, commitment, and the evolution of new relationships. I can provide insight into current relationship challenges and help you develop stronger skills through training in self-awareness, empathy, communication, collaboration, and boundaries.

You have visited this site because you have a life situation that is troubling you. I have spent my forty-five year career helping people solve problems such as yours, whether that be a challenging child, anxiety or depression that prevents your from enjoying your life as you wish, or a difficult marriage.. I am a solution-oriented therapist. You and I will work together in search of the solutions you desire. We will meet as often and for as long as you wish, focusing on solutions more than problems and your future rather than your past. When therapy is pursued in this manner it typically involves only a handful of sessions.

You don’t understand why you feel this way. You’ve worked so hard to get here but it feels different from what you had hoped for. On the surface things are going well but you still feel dissatisfied, empty, distant, and disconnected. There is a side of you that stays hidden from us and it is so exhausting for you to keep it that way. You feel like connecting and understanding will help you through this but another part of you is terrified of getting what you want. You’ve tried other therapists and perhaps medication, too; things feel a bit better for a little while, but you always come back to this. You want deeper, lasting change.

We often have a sense that in some ways, somehow we have been holding back. The barriers hidden behind cost us in our capacity for intimacy, spontaneity, and precious space for the heart's need to express and to be seen. They are usually constructed for very good reasons; to avoid painful experiences and vulnerability. But more often than not, carry on decades beyond when the threatening events have past. Defenses, beliefs, and the wounds that shut us down developed around people. The healing can happen when we feel safety again. Not surprisingly, this needs to happen with people too.

Your intimate relationship can be one of the most important sources of joy, satisfaction and fulfillment in your life. However, issues may arise which upset that original harmony, and if left unaddressed, lead to a negative pattern of quarreling, difficult communication, and a loss of connection, trust and intimacy. In some cases, this negative spiral can further lead to depression, substance/behavioral addictions, or even an affair. I can provide you with the effective tools for identifying, addressing and resolving those challenging issues, and help you co-create a renewed sense of connection, intimacy and sacred partnership.

I enjoy working and developing a therapeutic relationship with people that are struggling in their life whether it's with depression, anger, trauma, anxiety, relationships or even a sense that something needs to change. It's within that struggle that the spark of hope resides and I see it as my job to help people focus on their future, their strengths and successes and then begin to rediscover the hope and power to begin to shape their future and their lives.

After over 50 years of experience working with children, adolescents and adults in settings as diverse as prison and preschool, I have come to the conclusion that the root of most psychological suffering is a discrepancy between who we really are and who we have been expected to become or expect ourselves and others to be. This discrepancy between the "Self" and the personality we develop causes immense suffering within individuals, between individuals and in the culture as a whole. My goal is to help clients find their own truth or "Self" and live their lives from that place.

Sometimes it is difficult to make sense of thoughts and feelings, especially when many of us are told not to listen to what is happening inside. People seek therapy because they want to have a more satisfying life, and have been unable to achieve their goals due to internal and external stresses. It is difficult to discover what we already know and to bring that knowledge usefully into the world in the midst of the incessant demands of everyday life. I work with adults, adolescents and families on anxiety, depression and interpersonal problems that cause them concern. I find it very rewarding, working together toward a richer life.

I see clients who are entering therapy for a wide variety of reasons, including dealing with grief, anxiety, depression, and complications from trauma. My first task in working with you will be to create a warm, safe environment where you can re-discover your most authentic self. In our sessions we will explore your hopes, goals, and dreams. We will also tend to the psychological wounds that have been causing so much pain. My orientation to psychotherapy is based on the simple understanding that the mind, like the body, will heal itself if we create the right conditions for change to occur.

I have been in private practice for about 13 years, helping individuals who suffer with depression and anxiety - due to life transition, trauma, stress, or sexuality/relationship/identity issues. Each of us are different, and my approach to therapy is flexible to meet your unique needs. I do not pretend to be an expert in "your life" and I try to help you develop and refine your own strategies by reflecting and summarizing what I hear you saying, rather than telling you what to do. I love to brainstorm ideas, admitting all are not good. I believe there are many paths to enlightenment. Currently, I am only accepting online clients.
