I am a Certified EMDR therapist with a focus on couples, relationships, marriage and sex.
You've experienced something terrible in your life, and you cannot stop thinking about it. You can't sleep, and barely function throughout the day. Or maybe you function, but you're unhappy, stressed and anxious. Maybe you cover the pain with drugs, sex or alcohol. Trauma affects everyone- and everyone reacts in their own way. You want to be able to look forward to your day, your life and your relationships. If you've been through sexual trauma, infidelity, relational issues or have low self esteem, EMDR can help.

I’m certified in EMDR therapy for trauma work.
I was born and raised in the suburbs of Minneapolis, MN, but thereafter lived in various locations across the USA, including Las Vegas, NV; New Orleans, LA; and Portland, OR. In 2011 I moved to Silver City, NM to join a Tibetan Buddhist dharma center. Though I have since parted ways with them, Buddhism and eastern philosophy have had a strong influence on my life and my work in mental health. I have been living in Albuquerque since 2018.

I am trained in and greatly support the use of EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) therapy with my clients.
People seek therapy for various reasons. Sometimes a person is impacted by a specific life event/crisis. Alternately, a person may feel stuck; overwhelmed and confused realizing the way he/she has dealt with issues just hasn't seemed to work. Working together, we will engage in a collaborative learning process exploring issues bringing you to therapy. We will utilize the therapy process to cultivate greater self understanding, compassion for oneself and the ability to better navigate the twists and turns of life.

My services are remote only. With passion and care I help clients navigate emotional obstacles. I treat individuals struggling with personal issues which stop them from reaching their full potential. I can use EMDR and guided imagery (effective therapies for trauma and attachment issues) to activate your mind’s natural ability to heal, freeing you of trauma symptoms and helping you develop a more secure attachment style.
I help individuals gain self-confidence and create great relationships. I only work with people one-on-one because I’m dedicated to giving you personal, in-depth support throughout your relationship journey. That could include deciding whether to stay in a challenging relationship, navigating infidelity, recovering from heartbreak after a relationship ends, learning to enjoy being single, and/or navigating dating, commitment, and the evolution of new relationships. I can provide insight into current relationship challenges and help you develop stronger skills through training in mindfulness, empathy, communication, and boundaries.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
