After years of helping people while working for various agencies, in 2022 I opened my own practice to work directly with adolescents, adults and seniors who want to better manage their lives, and to learn how to thrive and enjoy life. Often drawing on all of my prior experience working in the legal system, my own history of substance abuse and recovery, domestic violence and numerous major life changes and health issues as well as being a mom and grandmother. My practice focuses on recovery from substances, grief & loss therapy, parent coaching, guidance through the criminal justice system, and dealing with change at any life stage

The adolescents, adults, seniors , couples, and families who benefit most from my services are interested in learning about themselves - what they like and don't like, what motivates them, what they believe about themselves and others, and what they want their lives and relationships to be like. The issues people typically ask for my help with include: anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, personality issues, self-esteem, identity, substance use problems, compulsive behaviors (eating, gambling, sexual, etc), occupational/academic issues, relationship challenges, and life transitions. My clients achieve self acceptance and satisfaction by learning to make choices that are consistent with their values, needs, and goals.

I enjoy work with adolescents, adults and seniors .
I essentially work in partnership with clients’ and together identify your goals for therapy. Most importantly, we will identify your strengths; explore what is working well and establish what you want to be different in your life. We will cultivate a plan to accomplish the goals that you set forth for positive change. I define my principal approach to counseling as Client-centered, Narrative (Talk) Therapy, while I also enjoy the practical nature of Brief, Solution-Focused Therapy.

Are you struggling with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings, anxiety or depression? Finding yourself using ineffective coping strategies costing you time, money, health, vitality or relationships? Having the same fight again and again with your partner, growing apart? With mindfulness-based counseling build the skills to experience and manage thoughts and feelings so that they have less impact on you, less influence over you. Also increase your tolerance for examining difficult emotions and conflicts that you may be expending energy trying to avoid. Find the freedom to identify and move toward your valued goals and ways of being in the world.

EMDR SINCE 2003. Traditional talk therapy often DOES NOT uncover and address the actual past complexities and traumas of a person's life that continue to have emotional effects causing present day anxiety, stress and depression. I offer Attachment Focused EMDR in an effective format which connects to the underlying memories and events that repeatedly surface blocking access to a sense of well being and trust in oneself. My form of therapy decreases the charge connected to negative experiences and moves clients into a more objective and positively focused framework (Parnell, 2007). I also offer CBT and Grief Recovery interventions.

All families are unique and beautiful in their own way. Families shift and change with new members through marriage and children and change due to loss with death or divorce. We all need a safe space to process through different developmental stages in life’s transitions. Grace Therapy Services supports individuals and families through systems change. We use a family-centered and systems approach to individual change, which means that even when we see you individually for therapy, the focus is on change through a strengths-based systemic lens.

I've passionately served the NM queer community for the past 8 years. I work with adults struggling with generalized and social anxiety, trauma, depression, change of life/adjustment issues, grief & loss, and LGBTQ+ concerns (coming out, gender identity, transitioning, living an authentic life). The pandemic has changed everything --from the way we work and socialize to the way we do therapy. It's made therapy more solution-focused, trauma-informed, and necessary. If you're feeling fractured, disenfranchised, or displaced, now is the time to pick up the pieces and rebuild a healthier life! Now is the time to heal.

How can I find a therapist in Albuquerque?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
