My counseling practice includes adults, adolescents and children as well as those on the DD waiver. I am trained in Sand Tray Therapy and in EMDR. I believe that as people become more accepting of themselves, they are more capable of finding happiness and contentment in their lives. If counseling is successful, you should feel that you are able to face life's challenges in the future better than you could before and can face life's challenges in the future without my support or intervention.

I especially like counseling children .
**Unfortunately I have no availability****Welcome and thank you for visiting. There are many professional therapists to choose from. It's often hard to distinguish between everyone and feel you've made the right decision. Finding a genuine connection can take time. It's alright to change your mind if you don't feel comfortable. The best counseling environment encourages exploration of who you are with someone you trust, accepts you as you are, and travels where you feel needed to go. I hope when we work together that you feel this connection.

My clients bring in a range of issues and have varying ideas of what they would like to change about themselves and/or their lives -- but they all have one thing in common, and that is motivation for change. Therapy can, and should, be a place for self-reflection and self-improvement and I am here to support that process. While a lot of my experience has been with children /adolescents and mood disorders, I approach every client with an open mind and heart, and strive to always create a safe and inviting space.

I believe no one lives in a vacuum. That's why I'll be asking about you and your relationships with family and friends. Your children don't live in a vacuum, either. In working with them, you'll be included in parts or all of their sessions. My practice is called the Rio Rancho Family Counseling Center. When you're seeing me alone or as a couple, you determine when and what problems to talk about and how fast and how deep we go. I draw on several methods of therapy because my practice is patient oriented and patient directed.

*Not currently accepting new clients* Hello! I am a strengths-based therapist who loves and specializes in working with children and their families. Parent- Child interaction and helping families to identify coping strategies is my passion; I have been working with children and parents for the past 11 years. My theoretical orientation is rooted in Experiential Play Therapy, Parent- Child Interaction Therapy, and Brief Solution Focused Therapy. By using a child directed approach with families, children are able to form close and secure relationships with others, understand and manage their feelings, and feel safe to learn and explore.

With over 20 years experience and a LCSW, Licensed Clinical Social Worker; I have received specialized training from The Philadelphia Child and Family Therapy Center and Street Yoga-Trauma/Yoga healing.
Are you looking for relief from suffering? This may hold different meanings to different people. For some, it means addressing past traumas to improve current living. For others, it may mean transforming anxiety and depression into manageable states of being, or working through specific parenting challenges that cause concern. For children and adolescents, relief of suffering may come in the form of receiving support and coping skills to deal with life's changes such as divorce, school related stress, or a serious trauma or mental health issue.

Hi, my name is Christy Tackwell and I work with adults, teens and children in my private practice. I would say that I am eclectic and use both traditional and alternative forms of therapy such as Art Therapy. I believe in a good working relationship in order to build trust so that the client is comfortable. The client is accepted for who they are and where they are. I believe in creating a safe and confidential environment so that the person can move at his or her own pace towards their therapy goals. Identifying issues and possible solutions is very important.

Child Therapists

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
