Borderline Personality (BPD) Therapists in Albuquerque, NM
I specialize in helping teens 16+ and adults navigate Borderline Personality Disorder or traits, trauma, ADHD, and Autism.
Are you exhausted from managing your emotions all day? Planning around triggers. Replaying conversations. Feeling overstimulated, reactive, or completely shut down. You may hold it together in some areas and unravel in others. Maybe you understand your patterns logically, but in the moment a part of you takes over and responds before you can think. You want to respond differently in the moment so your relationships and life feel more secure rather than chaotic.

I view the experience often labeled borderline personality disorder through a DDP-informed lens (Dynamic Deconstructive Psychotherapy), supporting clients to make sense of emotional experiences, find meaning and agency, tolerate ambiguity, and develop greater differentiation between self and others.
As of Mar 2026: I have limited openings for individual adults seeking regularly scheduled weekly in person appts, business hours only. Please email for details about scheduling an intake. I became a therapist after a 30-year research career in the U.S. and abroad, most recently in VA mental health. I offer EMDR therapy for trauma/complex trauma processing, and to support anxiety, grief, attachment anxiety/abandonment sensitivity, depression, self-esteem, and other issues. I am also trained in Written Exposure Therapy to help process traumatic moments in session that are keeping you stuck in old patterns, fears, and emotions.

I believe a big part of therapy is understanding the nature of change: how hard it is, what gets in the way, what your individual motivation is (which is usually how much you're suffering!) and what helps you create change. If you're ready and willing and needing to change - I'd love to work with you. 19 years experience, with trainings in trauma, anxiety, personality disorders, depression and anxiety

Life can be complicated and is rarely straightforward. There are thousands of self help books out there on how to make your life meaningful. They can be helpful. However in my experience it is not always the actual knowledge of what makes life meaningful, it is the timely application of this knowledge and experiencing the feeling of accepting oneself. We often know why we want to make changes to better our life, we just don't always know how.

Just because you carry it well, does not mean it is not heavy. On the outside it seems you have it together. You have a life, a home, and obligations. People depend on and respect you. But on the inside, you fear it will all fall apart. No one knows how loud it is in your head: all the noise, worry, shame, insecurity, loneliness, negative self-evaluations. Substances, sex, cutting, or food used to help, but now they just make it worse. You want and crave connection while keeping everyone at a safe distance: If they knew the REAL you, it would be too much.

Beginning therapy can feel overwhelming, and taking the step to look for a therapist is an act of courage in itself! I recognize how vulnerable it can feel to reach out, share your story, and trust someone new with your experiences. I provide a space where you feel seen, heard, and supported as you navigate whatever brought you here. I value curiosity and a willingness to grow at your own pace. My approach is warm, nonjudgmental and rooted in genuine human connection. I believe the most powerful part of therapy is the relationship we build; within that strong, collaborative partnership growth can occur!

Life can be stressful and art therapy can assist in identifying and managing emotions. In addition to tele health art therapy, also provide tele-health talk therapy for tweens, adolescents and adults. I strive to assist my clients with creative expressive experiences to help facilitate personal growth; considering developmental, family structure and social/cultural factors when creating individualized treatment plans. The addition of the art making process helps in building relationships with those who may be resistant to sharing their emotions in a therapeutic setting. Where words fail, art takes over.

I am particularly drawn to supporting individuals seeking purpose and meaning in their lives—those who strive to create alignment between what they think, say, and do. I encourage reflection, discovery, and recognize that healing often begins with reclaiming one’s narrative.

We all have hurts we have not healed from that resonate in our lives today. Being able to make a safe place where clients can come and talk about their thoughts and feelings about what has happened is really important to me. I love to help people really understand themselves, to find that link to why we do what we do and to learn to heal from our past traumas.

What is the most successful approach to treating borderline personality disorder?
Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) is considered the gold standard of treatment for borderline personality disorder. An evidence-based treatment, it addresses the extreme emotional reactivity, the relationship difficulties, and the acts of self-harm that create so much distress for BPD patients. DBT is a comprehensive program that includes both regular individual psychotherapy sessions and weekly group sessions of skills training.
What happens in treatment of borderline personality disorder?
Treatment typically consists of weekly individual therapy sessions that last an hour and group skill-focused instructional sessions that may last up to two hours. Patients are typically given homework “assignments” in which they are asked to practice in their daily life the skills they acquire in therapy. Patients also keep a diary tracking their emotions and impulses as a way to know which situations are most problematic and to help them gain control over their own behavior. Difficult situations and feelings are typically reviewed in therapy sessions and more constructive solutions found.
What kinds of problems does BPD treatment help with?
DBT was initially developed to dampen the self-destructive impulses of chronically suicidal patients. It is now the treatment of choice for borderline personality disorder, a serious condition marked by extreme emotional reactivity, relationship instability, and self-injurious behaviors. Treatment of BPD helps patients tolerate the flux of emotions without acting on them, often with a specific focus on tolerating negative emotions. DBT addresses the core problems of BPD—fear of abandonment, low self-esteem, and impulsivity.
What is the goal of treatment in borderline personality disorder?
The goal of treatment for borderline personality disorder (BPD) is to relieve the extreme emotional distress that patients experience—to curb their emotional reactivity, to minimize their inclination to self-harm, and to reduce their impulsivity. Toward these ends, patients are not only taught an array of new coping skills and techniques for emotional regulation, they are given opportunities to practice them. Another major goal of treatment is interpersonal effectiveness; patients learn and problem-solve ways to effectively communicate in relationships, especially how to ask for what they need as a way to minimize hurt feelings.
