Accepting clients! This is a crazy and uncertain time right now for all of us. Seems like everything we are used to doing has changed and is uncertain. You've spend as long as you can remember trying to keep it together, but it's becoming more difficult and let's face it, you're feeling overwhelmed and perhaps experiencing feelings you have never had before. You are lonely and isolated; perhaps even feeling a loss of independence or control, perhaps even suicidal. Whether you are a teen or an adult, let's work together to gain back as much normalcy in your life as possible.

Life can be rough. If you're a parent of an ADHD teenager , do you really think that nagging more will change his behavior? Or maybe you're struggling to find meaning in your life, wondering about your role as a man in today's world, as a husband, as a father. Or maybe you're just so tired of being anxious and depressed...Or now that you're sober, perhaps you want to deepen and develop your recovery from addiction?

I work with clients experiencing: life transitions, stress, grief/loss, anxiety, depression symptoms, adjustment & change, and developmental ( teen ) specific issues.
“Your vision will become clear only when you can look into your own heart. Who looks outside, dreams; who looks inside awakes”. C.G. Jung. You are already whole. Everything you require to heal and thrive is already alive within you. When we are hurting it can be hard to look into our hearts; healing & wholeness seem impossible. Therapy can offer support, guidance, compassion, and a safe space for you to look within. Through therapy you can learn skills and develop practices that will put you in touch with your inner wisdom, resilience, and inspiration. Are you ready to begin your journey?

I had a psychology practice in Austin for 20 years, relocating to Albuquerque in 2012. As an outgrowth of my continuing work with clients from Texas, I have developed a specialty in providing internet therapy. My specialties include eating disorders, complex mood disorders, personality disorders, recovery from narcissistic abuse, and helping families with "failure to launch" young adults. I also provide consultation to parents who are struggling with an oppositional adolescent or an adult child with ongoing difficulties. I provide both therapeutic and forensic psychological evaluations.

If you are a couple, adolescent , or individual seeking therapeutic services, please do not hesitate and reach out to me! Im looking forward to walking along side you.
Hearing the word therapy can bring on strong feeling such as fear, judgment, confusion. But it dosent have to be! Let's embark on this journey of self exploration and healing together. On this path of healing, there are a lot of life challenges that we may encounter and face. But you don't have to go at it alone. Mental health has always been a passion of mine. Mental health is a subject that is still taboo and hard to discuss because of the negative conotations or stigmas attached to it. Many suffer in silence because of this.

Counseling is my second career. I have always been in a helping profession and my journey to becoming a clinician began as a teacher. Helping others has always been a passion of mine whether it was in the classroom or in a counseling office. In every client that I have ever had the privilege to be a part of their journey, it has always been my sincere hope that I could at least plant a seed of hope and inspiration. I see clients with various issues. I focus on teen and women issues but do see individuals for many other issues, such as trauma and depression.

I specialize in working with women and teen girls. If you or your teenager are feeling emotionally unstable, vulnerable or anxious, I have tools and skill sets for you. In the early years of my career, I worked as a substance abuse counselor and still hold an independent license in that field. My work has evolved away from active addiction towards addressing the trauma and wounds that are associated with addictive processes. For teens that might be self harm, depression or anxiety, and for adult women it can manifest as perfectionism, anxiety, staying overly busy, or being self critical. These efforts to cope can all be upgraded!

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
