We have an onsite yoga studio for our clients where they can explore the mind-body connection through techniques aimed at relaxation and resetting the autonomic nervous system that gets thrown off with stress and trauma. These techniques are a client-centered approach to bringing into an alignment of healing for the WHOLE person - mentally, physically, and emotionally. As trauma specialists we incorporate a psycho-educational approach to teaching about the impact of trauma as well as co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety and depression so as to help our clients make the connection between substance abuse, mental health, and trauma. At RiseUp we realize how important supportive family members and significant others are in recovery, so we include these individuals if they are in agreement.

My team at Umoja Behavioral Health and I work well with addictions, teens, sexual abuse, marriage/relationship problems and LGBTQ issues.
Our primary method is called Belief Systems Analysis. Using a science-based survey, we can discover real strengths and begin to build upon them. This can also enhance your work if you care for people, in your work or family. This holistic approach acknowledges worldview, relationships, and community.

Are you tired of hearing self-doubt that stifles your progress? I have learned there is a theme in helping people; listening to the needs of the individual. Hearing what they have to say, understanding their needs, working on self-confidence(knowledge), self-belief(action) creates self-esteem. I believe that, when given the right opportunity, each of us will grow. My goal is to provide an environment in which people feel safe to talk about themselves. My overall goal is to help people build on their strengths, building their self-esteem, for personal growth.

Albuquerque, NM 87112
Before going into parish ministry, I worked in a community mental health clinic, mostly with families and people with substance abuse problems.
Pastoral counseling / spiritual direction --especially for people not currently (or ever) participating in a religious community. I offer a fresh, open, insightful, lively look at life, relationships, grief, worry, changes, responsibility, God, love, and the meaning of it all. Hospital visits in times of need, end-of-life chaplaincy, weddings, funerals, regular visitation at nursing homes, etc. Spiritual clarity, rather than "religion" within narrow confines, is the path to health, hope, joy, and peace. As the song says, "Faith can move mountains... but only love can give set us free, and only love can give us peace."

I believe that people have a right to live a life without fear. I believe that fear keeps us stuck. I believe that this is your life, and you are allowed to enjoy it. I believe that people want to be happy, but they generally lack the tools to be that way.

Most people just want to be heard. They want to know that someone is listening to them and someone cares. Further, most of us contain the answers to our questions. We simply need someone to support us and remind us of our great worth and value. Within this environment of support we are able to discover within ourselves what we have been lacking, where we are in need and what will improve our lives. You are capable, you can do this! I wish to congratulate you on coming this far, you are not alone and there is not something “wrong” with you. Actually, there are some great attributes within or you would not have had the courage.

Conveniently located in Albuquerque's West Side, we specialize in anxiety, depression, trauma, domestic violence, women's issues, and relationships. We believe that the most important aspect of therapy is the client's relationship with the therapist - the client needs to trust the therapist and feel comfortable. Our initial goal is to create an atmosphere of safety. Sometimes it is necessary to access guidance from a professional outside of the current situation in order to assist in gaining perspective.

Hi! I am currently accepting new clients. We all experience pain and suffering in our lives, at one point or another, and when we do, many of us aren’t entirely equipped with the tools and skills we need to effectively cope and push forward. Sometimes pain can be resolved within a short amount of time - maybe after a loss or significant change. Sometimes it sticks with us longer and weighs on us more heavily. No matter the case, it is always helpful to talk to someone about our struggles.

I work with clients who may be struggling with substance abuse and addiction issues.
I am here to help clients dealing with drug and alcohol use, especially those working non-traditional hours. During those vulnerable late-night moments, it’s good to have someone to turn to who is on your schedule. Using telehealth, I can assist anyone throughout the state of New Mexico, whether in a big city or a rural ranch. It is my plan to help people through their addiction and substance use issues, and any co-morbid mental health issues they also face.

Addiction Therapists
What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
