If you're stuck in anxiety, PTSD, depression, eating disorders, or body image problems, I can help! I use evidence-based treatments, mainly Cognitive Behavior Therapy. I am specifically trained in Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and CBT-E (for Eating Disorders). In therapy you can expect to play an active role in the process and will often have homework assignments. This is the best way to learn new skills and ways of thinking toward recovery!

Dr. Meghan B. Morris, Director of Mind Garden Therapy New Mexico, LLC, envisions the therapeutic process like tending a garden in which seeds are planted in our minds: we are able to nurture our environments to allow growth and change in ways that see our dreams and potential flourish like flowers. She has extensive experience in working with survivors of sexual and physical abuse, worked for many years with refugees and genocide survivors overseas, and has expertise in working through the traumas of complex and forced migrations. She also sees a growing number of clients struggling with difficult pregnancies and births.

I approach therapy with a holistic mindset, helping you explore how past experiences, including trauma, impact your current thoughts, behaviors, and relationships. Together, we’ll uncover what’s behind your responses to life and work toward a deeper understanding of yourself. With over 23 years of experience I listen to what is being said and what is not being said. Identify areas or situations that have formed their responses to situations and guide them to being honest with themselves first, and with me. Although I'm qualified in many counseling approaches, my focus is always on you and your life journey - not a technique.

As your therapist, I will create a safe, warm, and uplifting space that gives you room to heal and explore what can be. My approach to therapy is person-centered, meaning I will meet you where you are at in your journey and with the understanding that you are the expert on your lived experience. I believe that the most powerful change during therapy comes from being able to show up as you are and for me to hold space for you to navigate life’s challenges and disruptions. My style involves theory based solutions such as narrative therapy while also incorporating mindfulness and other holistic work.

I am passionate about helping others find healing from the complexities of life. I treat a variety of mental health concerns and work with all people across the lifespan from a trauma informed, neurodivergent affirming, humanistic, and attachment-based theoretical lens. I have found that therapy works best and is most meaningful when it is individualistic which is why I am fond of a prescriptive approach to therapy.

There is plenty of suffering in our world. Anxiety, depression and other mental ailments are on the rise. People feel more isolated than ever and thinking they might be the only person who feels the way they do. They suffer in silence. We suffer many times at the hands of our Ego. Ego wants this or doesn’t want that. We feel anxiety or bad mood and we do everything we can to push it away. We don’t want to feel it so we insulate ourselves from it. The paradox is that the more you push something away the stronger it gets. We have created strategies and defenses to keep ourselves moving but in the end they just don't work.

Everyone is subject to have problems come up from time to time. Seeking out help is often not easy, and especially from someone you don't know. The fact that you are on this page is a big step to take, and I commend you for that step. If you are currently looking for support for anything from a life transition to something that has been a little more long term, my hope is that you will take the courageous step forward in facing your difficulty. My view on facing hardships in life is that none of us need to do it alone, and the only way over a difficulty is to go through it.

If you’re an individual or couple with past or current trauma, or an LGBTQIA+ teen or adult, I may be the right therapist for you. I use an eclectic approach with elements of CBT, MI, ACT, and SFBT. I also now offer IFS (parts work) informed treatment if you’re looking for somatic therapy. The work I do is unique to each client or set of clients, as each diagnosis presents differently depending on the host. I also work well with teens and parents. I cut my therapist teeth at a homeless shelter for teens for the first four years of my career. I have a keen understanding of the ways teens and parents relate.

**Unfortunately I have no availability****Welcome and thank you for visiting. There are many professional therapists to choose from. It's often hard to distinguish between everyone and feel you've made the right decision. Finding a genuine connection can take time. It's alright to change your mind if you don't feel comfortable. The best counseling environment encourages exploration of who you are with someone you trust, accepts you as you are, and travels where you feel needed to go. I hope when we work together that you feel this connection.

My practice maintains a focus on highly functioning individuals whose difficulties may not always be visible to others. Have you ever felt like you're barely holding it together? Maybe you've never been to therapy before but something is compelling you to do so now. Or maybe you've tried it before, but you're looking for a more customized approach. I utilize evidence based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, mindfulness-based therapies and self-compassion, to help my clients achieve lasting change.

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
