Let's work together to make your life better. My team at Umoja Behavioral Health and I work well with addictions, teens, sexual abuse, marriage/relationship problems and LGBTQ issues. We also work with those who are experiencing anxiety or fears about success, wish to improve coping and relationship skills, and to experience greater fulfillment in life. Culture, worldview, and knowledge of self represent the solution to problems as individuals--and as a society. I envision a world where everyone is authentic, engaged, and makes empowered choices rooted in passionate purpose.

My work focuses on restoring the balance within the body (insomnia, anxiety, inattention, impulsivity) and within relationships (anger, sadness, grief, loss, migration, trauma, abuse) through various methods (Hypnosis, EMDR, Reiki, Limpias, Play therapy).

Hi...welcome in! You're either here looking for a therapist for yourself or for someone else. Either way, congratulations because sometimes we just can't see the forest because of the trees, as the expression goes. Obstacles make the happy ending seem far away or even impossible. When we have something troubling us, friends and family can take so much and can only offer so much. We need to talk about it, reveal the deep stuff that might be embarrassing or that has us feeling shame and other unwanted emotions, and work with someone to help figure things out.

I combine herbs and aromatherapy methods along with trauma reduction techniques, hypnosis, and energy work.
Is it time for you to feel free from stress and anxiety? Is it time to make changes to old patterns that no longer serve you? Hypnosis is a transformative process where the therapist and participant work collaboratively to achieve the desired outcome. The therapist helps the person tap into inner resources and strengths that can aid in the healing process. The expectancy of the outcome is important and both parties work together to help reach desired results. The sessions are recorded for the participants to listen to and practice on their own.

I work with adults, teens, and tweens (10+) who are: Neurodivergent or creative thinkers; Going through life transitions or identity shifts; Seeking deeper connection after burnout or trauma; Curious about spiritual or psychedelic integration; Drawn to movement or creativity.
Before becoming a therapist, I spent many years as an attorney. I have also been a dancer, circus artist, activist, writer, librarian, game master, and chronically curious human being. I am neurodivergent and understand what it feels like to move through the world feeling simultaneously “too much” and deeply capable. You do not have to be good. You only have to show up. That’s the spirit of Wild Geese by Mary Oliver, and it’s the heart of my work. If you’re tired of therapy that feels like a test you could fail, this space is different. I believe healing happens when we move, create, build, and play. Let's make the world bigger.

Our practice is trauma-informed and LGBTQ+ friendly.
Psychotherapy Associates is a small, boutique practice located between downtown and Old Town. Drawing upon an East-West approach, we are trained in current, evidenced-based practices of western psychology while also drawing from the time-honored, contemplative practices of eastern philosophy. As we work, we consider the whole person - mind, body, and spirit - and that point of view guides our treatment decisions. Ultimately, we aim to be in tune with what works best for each individual client, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to life's problems.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
