My work focuses on restoring the balance within the body (insomnia, anxiety, inattention, impulsivity) and within relationships (anger, sadness, grief, loss, migration, trauma, abuse) through various methods (Hypnosis, EMDR, Reiki, Limpias, Play therapy).

I help adults understand how childhood trauma and CPTSD have shaped their relationships, self-worth, and sense of identity.
Do you struggle to know who you are, what you want, or what you truly need? If you grew up in a home where you didn't feel safe, seen, or good enough, you may have spent so much of your life adapting, people-pleasing, or staying in survival mode that self-discovery took a back seat. Many of my clients feel disconnected from themselves and struggle with boundaries, self-worth, anxiety, or relationships. Together, we'll build clarity, self-trust, and an intentional path forward that reflects who you are—not who you had to become to survive.

Problem gambling is one of the most hidden addictions in the U.S. due to the shame and stigma associated with gambling problems. Many people still mistake problem gambling for a moral problem or simply see it as poor choice making, rather than understanding the complex brain hijacking that problem gambling is for some people who can’t quit. Several neurotransmitters including dopamine, serotonin, glutamate, opioids, to name a few, are acting simultaneously on the brain during problem gambling.

We all know what anxiety feels like. We get butterflies in our stomachs, our hearts pound; we worry and fret, or feel jittery. This can happen when we are alone, in social contexts, elevators, in the car, or even just thinking about it. If worries and fears, anxiety, panic, or insomnia related to anxiety are preventing you from living your life the way you’d like, you may be suffering from an anxiety disorder. Anxiety is an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts and physical changes like increased blood pressure. In short it is our body’s response to a perceived threat.

Even stronger are women who Rise Up together gaining strength through solidarity, sobriety, and trauma recovery.
RiseUp is a State Approved Intensive Outpatient program that meets for 16 weeks utilizing the Matrix Model. Because we believe strongly that the body is as important as the mental and physical aspect of a person in their recovery, we integrate mind-body holistic approaches to help your body heal as you go through your recovery process. We have an onsite yoga studio for our clients where they can explore the mind-body connection through techniques aimed at relaxation and resetting the autonomic nervous system that gets thrown off with stress and trauma. These techniques are a client-centered approach to bringing into an alignment of healing for the WHOLE person - mentally, physically, and emotionally. As trauma specialists we incorporate a psycho-educational approach to teaching about the impact of trauma as well as co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety and depression so as to help our clients make the connection between substance abuse, mental health, and trauma. At RiseUp we realize how important supportive family members and significant others are in recovery, so we include these individuals if they are in agreement.

We all have hurts we have not healed from that resonate in our lives today. Being able to make a safe place where clients can come and talk about their thoughts and feelings about what has happened is really important to me. I love to help people really understand themselves, to find that link to why we do what we do and to learn to heal from our past traumas.

Our practice is trauma-informed and LGBTQ+ friendly.
Currently accepting new clients. Psychotherapy Associates is a small, boutique practice located between downtown and Old Town. Drawing upon an East-West approach, we are trained in current, evidenced-based practices of western psychology while also drawing from the time-honored, contemplative practices of eastern philosophy. As we work, we consider the whole person - mind, body, and spirit - and that point of view guides our treatment decisions. Ultimately, we aim to be in tune with what works best for each individual client, recognizing that there is no one-size-fits-all solution to life's problems.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
