I provide services in both English and Spanish. As a clinical mental health counselor, I believe the relationship between client and therapist is the most important part of the process. It is imperative that client(s) can trust me, and I provide a safe place for my clients to let themselves be vulnerable. I offer a judgement free atmosphere where my clients can grow and learn how to be the best version of themselves, to recognize their strengths and enhance coping skill using various modalities.

Years ago, when I began the journey to become a therapist, I found a letter written by my younger (8y/o) self. The letter said, "when I grow up I want to be a person that helps others, like a psychiatrist, a teacher or run a daycare." This letter is now on my wall in a frame to remind me everyday of the innocence of our youth. My drive rises from a place where we all have insecurities and we rise above and beat them. If it is from our trials that we learn how strong we can truly be.

Not accepting new clients
Your mental health shouldn’t deplete your quality of life, or keep you from experiencing the abundance you deserve. Is there something that’s been weighing on your heart, or new emotions that have recently surfaced? You don’t have to live with a weight on your shoulders forever. Sometimes taking the first step toward healing is the hardest milestone. Psychotherapy can treat symptoms of low self-esteem, constant worry, difficulty with social interactions, or feelings of sadness. I encourage clients to enter with an open heart, a desire for change, and a willingness to discuss their experiences.

By addressing troubling thoughts and feelings, self-sabotaging behaviors, and traumas, life can be made more manageable, productive, and fulfilling. Feelings such as grief, shame, anxiety, sadness, and anger often signal that something needs to change. Listening to and working with these feelings—some that consume us and others that gently nudge us—can move us forward. Through this, we sometimes discover that our everyday dilemmas are part of larger patterns waiting to be resolved as a whole.

If you’re an individual or couple with past or current trauma, or an LGBTQIA+ teen or adult, I may be the right therapist for you. I use an eclectic approach with elements of CBT, MI, ACT, and SFBT. I also now offer IFS (parts work) informed treatment if you’re looking for somatic therapy. The work I do is unique to each client or set of clients, as each diagnosis presents differently depending on the host. I also work well with teens and parents. I cut my therapist teeth at a homeless shelter for teens for the first four years of my career. I have a keen understanding of the ways teens and parents relate.

Hello and welcome- Maybe you've thought about what it would be like to talk to a counselor, and you're unsure about the process. You have been in therapy before, and really want to reconnect with a counselor who will be an empathetic supportive listener. Maybe life has given you some recent and intense situations: ongoing pandemic; want to support your child's needs; a divorce; becoming a parent; possibly even suffering depression/anxiety. Right now you are looking for relief, and to simply be alright day to day. You want it to be better, but aren't exactly sure how to get there.

Bipolar Disorder Therapists

What is the most successful approach to treating bipolar disorder?

Living with bipolar disorder can be challenging, and a number of therapies have been found effective in providing support to patients as they gain the skills to understand and manage the disorder. Family-focused therapy is often helpful for children and teens (the majority of cases develop before age 19); it aims to minimize mood cycling by improving family communication and reducing conflict. It also helps young people navigate the developmental challenges the disorder can create. Cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) and variants such as Dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)help patients manage the thoughts and feelings that influence bipolar mood swings as well as develop specific behavioral strategies to counteract them.

What happens in therapy for bipolar disorder?

Because the patterns of mood switching and its triggers differ for each person and can change over time, mood tracking or monitoring becomes a basic way patients learn about the nature of their condition. One of the most common features of therapy is finding a workable method of mood monitoring, in which patients track their daily activities and rate their moods, then use the findings to adjust routines accordingly. Patients learn ways of handling the many stresses that arise in life so that they do not trigger mood swings.

What kinds of problems does therapy help with?

Like many other mental health disorders, BPD is heavily influenced by stress; therapy provides skills for coping with stressors of all kinds. Therapy is extremely important for helping individuals identify the situations that may trigger mood switching, so that mood swings can be prevented. Therapy may especially target recognition of the early stages of mood change so that they can be managed. In addition, therapy helps patients deal with the significant amount of turbulence the disorder can create in relationships and in work life.

What is the goal of therapy for bipolar disorder?

Therapy helps patients set up their lives to maintain stability so that their mood isn’t constantly threatened by daily events. Perhaps the first task of therapy is to educate people about the nature of the disorder. At the same time, a primary goal of therapy is to enhance adherence to drug treatment. Extended periods of mood stability can prompt patients to discontinue medication, triggering relapse, while the early phases of manic episodes can feel so energizing that patients stop medication, ushering in full-blown mania and the altered self-perception that can lead to destructive behaviors. Another major goal of therapy is to understand one’s mood patterns so as to minimize both the frequency and intensity of mood cycling.
