I lead with empathy and a trauma informed lens.
Welcome. I provide therapy services to children, adolescents, young adults, and their families. Much of my clinical experience is with youth who struggle with psychiatric concerns such as depression, anxiety, and mood disorders, as well as youth who have been victims of trauma and abuse. I also have extensive experience working with youth in the LGBTQ+ community. I aim to always provide empathy and non-judgmental support during periods of difficulty, change, and transition for youth and help them build the skills to be happy, healthy, and successful individuals with meaningful and fulfilling interpersonal relationships.

Imagine your life as a bookshelf: It may feel like the “ TRAUMA ” book is the only one on your shelf. It’s big and heavy and it hurts to think about opening it. In our work together you will learn how to build a library full of rich life experiences around what you’ve already survived. You won’t have to numb the pain. You won’t have to minimize what you feel to make others comfortable. You will get to process your traumas and feel present for the first time in a long time, or maybe in your life.

When uncomfortable feelings like anxiety, sadness, loneliness, anger, shame, guilt, or confusion overwhelm us, we often try to make them disappear or ignore them. This might work temporarily, but often those feelings come back and keep us from solving problems, improving our situation and moving forward.

I help individuals (children/teen/adults) & families learn how to cope with everyday stressors, navigate relationship issues and manage symptoms related to anxiety, depression, ADHD, OCD & low self-esteem. Being a kid today is tough; Being a parent is even tougher. I don't believe in a "one-size-fits-all" approach to therapy so I offer a highly personalized approach tailored to you and your family.

One of the most difficult things to do is to recognize we need help... for even the strongest and most healthy can need a trusted mentor and healer at some point. Our personal lives and experiences shouldn't be trusted to just anyone; and it is difficult to find a qualified therapist who is both skilled in their work and able to connect with others in an empathetic way. Rob has this blend of unique and important abilities. He believes that successful therapy is working toward the ability to heal, recover, and thrive in one's life. Rob is a Clinical Director at Minisink Psychology & Psychotherapy in Ridgewood, NJ.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
