Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in life and we just cannot figure it out-"what am I doing wrong?... Why do I end up in the same place over and over ?..." Mistaken beliefs about yourself as well as ingrained patterns of feeling and thinking impact your self esteem, relationships and work life. Sometimes
trauma
,that occurs during the formative years of childhood ,can result in persistent fear, worry ,and depression . Substances, food , sex, money and work can be misused in attempts to find relief from the unrelenting emotional pain or numbness that untreated traumas create.
Trauma
therapies are designed to help with these struggles

Specialties: relationships, sexuality,
trauma
, grief/loss, anxiety, separation/divorce, stress and embracing the constant changes life brings.
I want you to have the best life imaginable: to live in a body that can feel what it feels and with a mind that can know what it knows. I believe we heal through connection and relationship; it is how we survive then thrive. Sometimes we need to make meaning of our experiences; sometimes we just want to manage or reduce unwanted symptoms and sometimes we need someone to simply be present- to sit and witness and listen or hold the silence. I hope you will find all these elements working with me and together we will walk the path to healing. Come in and let's explore together!

With greater understanding of the effects of early or repeated
trauma
on our attitudes and behavior, we can change the direction of our lives.
Our lives change. Some of these changes are welcomed while others can be overwhelming and create fear. When your life becomes difficult to manage, when there is regular conflict among family members, when anger and addictions become the preferred way of addressing concerns, when sadness has replaced optimism, it it time to seek the support of a counselor or family therapist. I am always honored to be invited into an individual's or family's personal story, to listen, to support, to create solutions. My therapy, in addition to offering accepted treatment practices, offers each person the respect they deserve in a safe environment.

I have over eight years experience treating exclusively
trauma
survivors.
At some point in our life we all experience a traumatic event. For some, these traumatic events (such as sexual abuse, a break-up, domestic violence, death of a loved one) are manageable and symptoms typically subside without disrupting any other areas of life. However, for others, such traumatic events take control over some or all areas of their life and lead to negative long-term consequences. As painful as the
trauma
is, you can still heal and grow after a traumatic event.

I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” when it comes to therapy. That’s why I meet clients where they are utilizing a combination of skills including evidence-based psychotherapy, mindfulness, solution-focused, and goal-oriented approaches. Trust is key in the therapeutic process and having a safe space to be vulnerable and express yourself genuinely is necessary to take the steps in addressing some of life’s most difficult challenges. My experience lies in working with individuals with anxiety, depression,
trauma
, life transitions and readjustment, managing emotions, grief and loss, and substance abuse.

Hello! I currently see patients age 5+.
Trauma
is considered my specialty area of practice. I do see private pay clients but can also see insurance clients through other platforms. I can currently accept clients from Virginia, New Jersey, and Indiana. The platforms only operate with certain insurance carriers so please view that section to determine if your insurance is one that can be worked with. Unfortunately, I am unable to add multiple links so to get the link associated with your state, you must email me your contact information. I also offer an individual message based service which is described more in groups.

Have you noticed your child or teen worrying a lot more lately? Have they been more down and withdrawn, losing interest in things they once loved? Seeing your child or teen struggle can leave you feeling helpless. Or maybe you have noticed these things in yourself or are a young adult struggling with life transitions and every day stress. Seeking help from a therapist may be the best choice to help begin to work towards meaningful change, create a better life balance, and facilitate inner peace.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
