I also have extensive experience treating various forms of abuse and neglect after providing clinical services to adolescents with a complex trauma presentation for more than a decade.
Life is a series of challenges. Society reinforces quick fixes to be happy. I am realistic and believe that living the kind of life you desire is not about avoiding distress and challenges. It is about learning skills and having the right tools to function while feeling distress and facing those challenges. True growth occurs in the face of discomfort, so therapy is not always easy. I provide a safe space while you go through those times of discomfort. It is the willingness to tolerate that discomfort and when real transformation and empowerment occurs.

I understand seeking therapy can be intimidating. With warmth and compassion I create a non-judgmental, supportive environment where you can safely express yourself and feel understood. You may be feeling anxious, stuck, overwhelmed or depressed and unsure of how to make positive changes in life. You do not have to figure it out alone; through our work together you will uncover hidden obstacles and revise self-limiting beliefs, enabling you to create an emotionally healthier present and a better future.

The goal of treatment is to end treatment. If your problems were easy to solve, you would have already solved them. Simultaneously, I believe everything you need to be successful, you walked in with. My job is to light the path, you walk it. The goal is to remove the obstacles that impede you enjoying your life to the fullest. I am active in therapy and collaborative; empowering you to get you where you're trying to go. I don't accept insurance because I think we should decide when the work is done; not the insurance company.

Specialize in trauma and emotional dysregulation, and also work with anxiety and mood-related concerns.
If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or like your emotions are running the show, you’re not broken, and you’re not alone. Sometimes we feel too much or not enough, and either way, it can pull us away from the life we want to be living. Therapy with me goes beyond just talking. I take a brain-based, evidence-driven approach to help you understand how your mind and body are working and how to shift patterns that no longer serve you. My style is compassionate, honest, and direct, creating a space where you feel supported while also being gently challenged to grow.

Lighthouse Counseling & Sand Play Training Center, LLC was conceived in 2000 in a tiny office in Point Pleasant Beach, New Jersey by Gretchen Morgan and Mary Pat McGeehin. Their search for effective treatment led them to include the use of Sand Play Therapy, EMDR, yoga and therapeutic group work with their clients. This was in response to the expanding body of research which illustrated that the mind-body connection was integral to the healing of mental health issues. In 2004, they expanded their practice to include like-minded affiliate clinicians and moved to a larger facility in Eatontown, NJ.

I specialize in working with children and their parents treating anxiety, trauma and OCD.
Have you tried everything to help your anxious child and nothing seems to be working? Maybe you’ve tried deep breathing exercises but it only makes things worse. Maybe you've tried to reason with your child's worries, but you get nowhere even though the worries don't make sense. Maybe you feel as though you have to hide things from your child to avoid causing unnecessary panic. Maybe your child can't leave your side, they avoid certain situations, and have nightmares. Perhaps, you've even tried therapy before and it wasn't helpful because you had to do all the talking for your child and you learned ineffective coping skills.

My primary focus involves the physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and financial impact that trauma may influence.
I strive to uphold cultural humility each day. Specifically, respecting all individuals and their values, beliefs, and opinions. A person’s background and culture may highlight the wonderful qualities about them which deserve to be recognized and respected. I also aspire to continue dismantling the stigma of mental health treatment each day. I believe that the need to talk and process life with another person should not be stigmatized. Therefore, each day I work to promote a non-judgmental, friendly, accepting, and safe space for people.

If you find yourself looking through these profiles, you may be struggling with life in some way, perhaps you just want to better yourself, maybe you just need someone to vent and unload on, or maybe you want therapy because you live with someone with a clinical diagnosis. For over 20 years, I have enjoyed working with all populations ages twelve and older. You don’t need to have a clinical diagnosis to benefit from therapy. Therapy is different for everyone and not every therapist is the right one for you. Clinical expertise is not the only important criteria for an effective therapist.

I specialize in trauma recovery, anxiety, depression, relationships, spirituality, body image, and life transitions.
We all have the potential to feel better than we do, even when life seems alright on the surface. But if you're here, chances are something hasn’t felt quite right for a while. The good news is, that can change, and often more easily than we expect. Our bodies have an incredible, natural ability to heal, and by tapping into that innate wisdom, we can navigate challenges, process difficult experiences, and move towards a deeper sense of well-being.

My professional experience includes working with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, self esteem issues, adjustment disorders and family conflict.
One of the hardest steps in the therapeutic process is this right here.. reaching out for help, for change. My role as a psychotherapist is to collectively work together to establish and meet personal goals in a safe, supportive environment that fosters healing and growth. I aim to provide clients the opportunity to explore and express their feelings to make life long changes that they ultimately feel good about. It is never too late to make a change or to begin the healing process.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
