I believe that my work is in helping clients walk less blindly through life. I try to ask questions to clarify the principles underlying the ways they relate to the world and others. I help not only with common problems (anxiety, depression, PTSD , phobias, OCD, etc.) but also work with those whose issues are not easily captured by a diagnosis and are existential in nature. The so-called "worried well" come to uncover and work through the sources of internal struggles, in order to become their best selves and live a more fulfilling life. I am fully bilingual and practice in both English and Russian.

I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and have been in private practice for over 30 years. The eclectic nature of my training and practice allows me to tailor therapy to your unique treatment needs. As we think about the nature of experiences such as trauma (both old and new), grief, loss, depression, and anxiety, it is clear they affect us through the mind, emotions, and the physical sensations. The mind-body connection treats the whole person in the service of health and well-being.

I work well with a client who has experienced some type of sexual, psychological, or religious trauma in their lives. In my sessions with this client, first I assess the level of trauma , help the client to build rapport with me, as well as trust. Secondly, I work to rebuild the client's life in terms of symptom management. Thirdly, the client and I form a partnership to improve relationship skills, thereby enabling the client to re-establish a sense of community. Finally, I value helping the client to rebalance his or her life in mind, body, and spirit.

My orientation of practice is relational within which psychodynamic, developmental, attachment, and trauma approaches are utilized.
The therapeutic process has the ability to transform. This happens through partnering together within a caring and empathic environment. We will then fully explore your thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns that may not be serving you well. This results in new ways of thinking, feeling and being. We will work towards illuminating your understanding of what you truly want to create for your life.

These are common concerns that come up when seeking professional help. I am a warm and compassionate therapist with over 30 years experience helping people with anxiety, depression, difficulties in relationships, parenting issues, balancing motherhood and career, and separation and loss. My goal is to provide a safe, therapeutic environment, where sensitive issues can be explored, and where new opportunities for hope and change can be realized.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
