I have an extensive background in many treatment modalities including Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Mindfulness Meditation, Emotional Freedom Technique, EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, Clinical Hypnosis, and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy.
I am a licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and have been in private practice for over 30 years. The eclectic nature of my training and practice allows me to tailor therapy to your unique treatment needs. As we think about the nature of experiences such as trauma (both old and new), grief, loss, depression, and anxiety, it is clear they affect us through the mind, emotions, and the physical sensations. The mind-body connection treats the whole person in the service of health and well-being.

I subscribe to the belief that the unexamined life is not conducive to living your best life. I am a psychodynamic , eclectic and holistic psychotherapist working with adults, adolescents and couples whom experience symptoms of depression, anxiety or interpersonal conflict, and often those working through deep existential crisis. With my guidance and empathetic stance, I will help you explore and challenge old beliefs and current behaviors so that you may gain insight and deep understanding into how some past events, (even those which are seemingly insignificant) are having an effect on your current functioning.

Using evidenced based approaches ( psychodynamic , CBT, DBT and EMDR) has helped hundreds of women throughout the tri-state area - and those they love - transform their lives through self-empowerment and the acquisition of new skills and perspectives.
Reading through these profiles can feel daunting when you are unsure of who can best help you. You need an able, expert guide worthy of your own commitment to face unresolved challenges. Good therapy gives causative insight, but GREAT therapy supports YOUR vision of creating a "life worth living". My work covers; career and relationships, trauma related to pregnancy, childbirth and infertility, chronic or terminal illness, disordered eating, grief and loss (including child and fetal loss).

My orientation of practice is relational within which psychodynamic , developmental, attachment, and trauma approaches are utilized.
The therapeutic process has the ability to transform. This happens through partnering together within a caring and empathic environment. We will then fully explore your thoughts, feelings and behavioral patterns that may not be serving you well. This results in new ways of thinking, feeling and being. We will work towards illuminating your understanding of what you truly want to create for your life.

My psychotherapy practice is deeply grounded in psychodynamic theory and is guided by attachment-informed, AEDP, and cognitive behavioral therapies.
My style as a psychotherapist is engaging, warm, and reflective, and I place a great emphasis on building trust and connection as the foundation of my clinical work. From there, we can begin to explore difficult and sometimes painful life experiences and understand the emotions beneath it. By paying attention to these experiences and emotional signals, you can better understand yourself, both past and present. I believe, at birth, we are all hard wired for healing and self-repair but we need the support of trusting and caring relationships to access the powerful drive within ourselves to heal, grow, love, and flourish.

I would describe my approach as psychodynamic , experiential, and humanistic.
I work with children, adolescents, and adults with a wide range of psychological and interpersonal challenges in life, such as mood disorders, anxiety disorders, trauma, life transition, relationship problems, and developmental disorders. I believe that psychotherapy is a process in which client and therapist collaborate in order to help client to improve self-understanding, overcome painful emotions, and discover new and widened perspectives about himself/herself, others, and life. I facilitate client's discovery and development of balanced and integrated personality so that he/she can transcend his/her psychological conflicts.

Psychodynamic Therapists

Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?

Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?

Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?

Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
