I have advanced training in marriage & family therapy, child and adolescent difficulties, adhd evaluation and treatment, hypnotherapy, stress reduction, anger management, substance abuse, and anxiety and depression treatment.
As a dedicated, caring, experienced psychologist, I successfully treated children, adolescents, families and adults, using a cognitive-behavioral approach, for over 25 years. I am an in-network for most insurance companies (Aetna, United, Cigna, Blue-Cross, Magellan, Value Options, Medicare and others). Through therapy, I have helped patients make positive changes, overcome their psychological difficulties, improve family and marital relationships, and improve child and teen adjustment. I was the director of a large psychological practice, was on the professional staff of Hackettstown Hospital, and was a school psychologist.

I have been working in the field of adolescent mental health and substance abuse counseling for over 14 years. I started my career working in a mental health partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program for adolescents and eventually came to specialize and work with adolescents and their families with substance abuse and co-occurring disorders in an intensive outpatient program which I coordinated, before moving on to work with adolescents in a high school setting.

"Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?" Henry David Thoreau. These healing words are the foundation of my philosophy. if you are having serious communication (and other) issues in your relationship with your partner that you've been unable to resolve....if your teenager , who has always been so good, is becoming unmanageable...if you are suffering with profound grief that doesn't heal over having lost a loved one or a beloved pet, then please consider speaking to someone who can help. I have over 25 years experience working with these and other issues.

You are a fascinating being with valuable gifts to share. Unfortunately, it's hard for you to feel this way when you are overwhelmed by stress, consumed by worries, dampened with depression, feel scattered, or have painful memories you've been carrying for years. Under such circumstances it's easy to feel despair, hope seems so far out of reach. Therapy may not be easy work, but with dedication, persistance and the right guidance and support - change does happen. It can happen for you, too.

Sometimes life brings about circumstances that cause you to feel stress, overwhelmed, anger, anxiety, or depression. Sometimes it is hard to identify what is causing those feelings or how to feel happy and healthy in the environments that are contributing to your feelings. Using a strengths based approach, I can help you develop stronger coping skills, build resiliency, improve relationships, communication, and overall well being. By using a strengths based approach, an individualized treatment plan is developed to best suit the client's therapy goals.

Hello. I am a seasoned psychotherapist with 32 years of humbling and varied experience. My style is engaging and kind. Please know that when you initially call, together we will schedule an initial one session consultation with no pressure to continue/or not. The purpose of this initial meeting is for me to get enough information to get a sense of you and what you are looking for and for you to get a sense of me and to ask any questions you might have. After this session, I will give you my impressions. Based on the information shared, I will make specific recommendations. Together, we will figure out which direction is best.

We all struggle sometimes. Life can be unpredictable and it's ok to not feel "ok". Anxiety, depression, and other mental illnesses can occur, whether biologically or due to life events, and it's ok to ask for help. It is human nature to seek happiness and wellness, and sometimes we need a little help and guidance to get there.

Do you have a greater potential for happiness and success than you are currently living? As a well trained and experienced psychotherapist, since 1998 I have helped people to work through emotional concerns that block this potential. I utilize a variety of psychotherapy approaches such as psychodynamic, Internal Family Systems, Somatic Experiencing, mindfulness, and EMDR. Accessing your essential compassionate presence, and identifying what blocks it, is the the foundation of all deep healing.

Teen Therapists

What does therapy for teenagers look like?

When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?

There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?

You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
