I graduated from Caldwell University in 2016 with a master’s degree in mental health counseling. I’m currently working in an outpatient setting, working individually with children (5+ years of age), adolescents, and adults. I work with individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, attention deficit disorders, life changes, conflict in interpersonal relationships, bipolar disorder, and borderline personality disorder. While I do work with clients with a wide array of symptoms and diagnoses, my specialty is working with clients who have experienced trauma.

Since entering the field of Social Work over 30 years ago, I have had the pleasure of working with individuals and couples through both the private and public sectors who are experiencing work or school stress, interpersonal or relationship issues, grief and loss, life transitions, mood disorders, ADHD , caregiver stress and trauma related challenges.
I am a strengths-based clinician providing a compassionate and non-judgmental culture of care for the treatment of anxiety and depression often associated with the challenges of daily life. My practice is based on the fundamental belief that all individuals deserve to feel respected, accepted and "heard." As such, my clinical approach to therapy is client centered and starts with building a trusting relationship so that we may work together to help you attain the quality of life that you desire. To move forward in the direction we want to go takes only one small manageable step to get started. Therapy will then move at your own pace

You are a fascinating being with valuable gifts to share. Unfortunately, it's hard for you to feel this way when you are overwhelmed by stress, consumed by worries, dampened with depression, feel scattered, or have painful memories you've been carrying for years. Under such circumstances it's easy to feel despair, hope seems so far out of reach. Therapy may not be easy work, but with dedication, persistance and the right guidance and support - change does happen. It can happen for you, too.

Sometimes life brings about circumstances that cause you to feel stress, overwhelmed, anger, anxiety, or depression. Sometimes it is hard to identify what is causing those feelings or how to feel happy and healthy in the environments that are contributing to your feelings. Using a strengths based approach, I can help you develop stronger coping skills, build resiliency, improve relationships, communication, and overall well being. By using a strengths based approach, an individualized treatment plan is developed to best suit the client's therapy goals.

My practice is dedicated to help children, teens and adults acknowledge and heal from wounds - not the "Band Aid" ones, but the kind that leave an imprint on your heart and psyche. Trauma and grief can be overwhelming, and can emanate from many different sources (death, violence, abandonment, relationship issues). I also work with children and teens to develop the coping skills necessary to grow and mature, especially as they deal with grief, anxiety, violence, and school related stress. The 'trickle down effect' of these issues is devastating - affecting how children learn, their social relationships, and self image.

As a licensed psychologist specializing in neuropsychology, I offer specialized skill and training in evaluating both cognitive and psychological functioning. Forgetfulness, difficulty concentrating, and difficulty learning new information are just a few of the cognitive difficulties my clients may experience. As a clinical neuropsychologist, I am able to discern psychological symptoms of depression or anxiety from a neurological disorder such as dementia, stroke, or traumatic brain injury. Further, I can provide psychological evaluations for individuals seeking bariatric weight-loss surgery.

We are currently living in a challenging time. The unprecedented demands of living through the COVID-19 pandemic; "shelter-in-place," social isolation, altered work & education via ZOOM, financial hardship, and more, has left many people experiencing new emotional struggles. The experience of loss due to sickness and death of loved ones, friends, or coworkers, has also created a sense of "emotional overload" for many. Talking to a compassionate professional can help you get through this difficult period. I am available to help you navigate these uncharted waters, as you seek to "land" on solid ground.

My primary treatment focus has been to use validation and empathy. I want to learn what goals you have and then help you in get to them. In addition to working with adults, I have extensive experience working with adolescents and their families in outpatient/school and inpatient settings dealing with anxiety, depression, psychosis, trauma, anger, grief and attention problems. I'm familiar with coaching DBT coping skills for distress tolerance, developing emotion management, and enhancing effective interpersonal skills. ADHD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
