At Princeton Family Institute we provide psychotherapy to families, couples and individuals from a culturally sensitive collaborative family systems perspective. I work with a range of problems:depression, anxiety, school refusal, child behavior problems, arrested emotional independence, substance abuse recovery, anorexia, and family and couples' conflict. In child-focused issues, I believe children should not alone bear the burden of change. I enlist family members as a resource in problem-solving. Parents and I work as a team to help their children. I welcome individuals, couples, and families whose problems have not been successfully addressed through other therapeutic approaches.

I work with a wide variety of issues, from separation, divorce, grief, ptsd, aging parents, and other life issues.
My style is highly interactive, focused on communication, and achieving client goals. It is important to me that my clients are comfortable with me and know that I am available to them. Making life changes is not always easy, but I believe in human resiliency and strength. As an example of this philosophy, I have changed my name back to my maiden name. My mother passed away from Alzheimer's disease, and for this reason, to honor her, I wanted to take my name back... human resiliency!!!

Caring for a parent comes with many experiences and emotions, as we can unexpectedly fall into the arena of grief and life as we know it.
As this person's therapist, we would create realistic goals and build rapport and a trusting relationship that would give them the courage and confidence to make changes. The treatment would include a mixture of hands-on and clinical exercises. I would use a combination of DBT and narrative therapy to assist the client through discussed goals.

Whether you're dealing with the loss of a loved one, a relationship, or job-or experiencing a difficult life transition- know that your situation does not define you, and that it's possible to not only stand up amidst the storms that rage around you
I work with teens, young adults, and adults who have experienced grief, loss, and unexpected transitions. While my clients are all very different, they possess a common resiliency that comes when you walk to the edge of grief and decide that it will not overtake you. There is power in choosing to rise again

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
