It's change within the context of relationship that heals.
I'm motivated to help people get past their pain and become who they were meant to be. Doing this requires trust, curiosity, careful listening, thoughtful feedback, and a commitment to what is most alive in you. The reward for me is that I get to be present when the next, better, freer and more flexible version of you comes into the world. It's exciting, meaningful work.

Now is the time for YOU to start making the changes needed for a fulfilling tomorrow. Your successful tomorrow is my hope.

The purpose of counseling is to help people cope with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which hinder various aspects of their personal satisfaction and functioning. This purpose is usually accomplished by increasing the client's personal awareness, increasing the client's acceptance of self and others, and having the client make behavioral and cognitive changes to attain personal goals. To achieve this, I utilize a combination of research-based practices such as cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectic behavior therapy, solution focused therapy, reality therapy, motivational interviewing, and client-centered therapy.

Many years ago, in a college library, I stumbled across a very early psychology book, printed in the early 1900's. Inside the front cover I found a Taoist inscription that I believe holds great truth, and best summarizes my philosophy of treatment: "....he who knows how to cleanse the current of a stream begins by clearing out it's source. And he who would strengthen the end of a process must commence with making it's beginning correct."

I graduated from NYU in 1981 and have had a clinical practice in Social Work since 1986. My treatment approach is eclectic. However, I am a certified EMDR therapist, and that, along with, Supportive Psychotherapy and Cognitive Behavioral techniques inform the manner in which I work with my clients. In my years of practice in the field, I have developed an honest respect for the therapy process and a confidence in the resiliency of the people that I have had the opportunity to work with.

I am also trained in Couples and Sex Therapy.
What's holding you back from being the person you want to be, having the relationships you want to have and living the life you want to live? Together we can break down the walls that confine you - addiction, dysfunctional relationships, abuse, depression, anxiety - so you may find joy, love and peace. In 35 years of practice, I've helped countless people find emotional healing. I can help you too. I started my career as a nurse and enjoyed seeing patients get well. Then I found a calling to learn the emotional techniques of healing and trained for my MSW.

I bring a unique relationship based approach to the forefront of my session, and find it to be relatable and validating.
Being a therapist is more than just my job, it is my passion. I truly enjoy each of my sessions: working with new clients and clients that I've been with for years. It is an honor to be a small part of your story. Outside of being a dedicated therapist, I enjoy spending time with my husband, two children, and my dog child as well. I love shopping, spending time being crafty, and traveling!

I proudly identify as an LGBTQ therapist who believes in a therapeutic relationship that is stepped in active-listening, empathy, and unconditional positive regard. In turn, this allows for clients to feel safe and secure when we engage in a therapeutic relationship . Therapy is about being yourself without the judgment of the world; and it is a discovery process that gives you the opportunity to visualize possibilities in life. My attention is drawn to connecting with clients, being collaborative and interactive, and learning how to help clients become unstuck in life.

I work with individuals to help them increase self-awareness and lead happier lives. My unique background makes me different than most therapists. In addition to being a licensed therapist, I have a PhD in Philosophy. As a therapist and life coach, I help individuals struggling with relationships, codependency, sexual compulsivity, and substance/alcohol abuse. I also work with adult children of alcoholics, those who grew up in families where emotional chaos and parent addiction may be affecting their adult relationships. In addition, I work with gay individuals and couples .

We work with depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, eating disorders, bereavement, borderline, autism, ADHD, addiction, sexual abuse, DV, medical illnesses, relationship problems, LGTBQ+, adjustment disorders and forensic cases.
Footprints was started by a therapist who realized that often times the services provided to low socio-economic communities is lacking quality care. We noticed these communities where confronted with long wait times, disrespectful admins, and subpar treatment. The one and only purpose was to exploit the community for profit without providing the level of care deserved. Footprints began from the inspiration to provide quality mental health care to the poorest of communities and treating the clients of this community the same way a rich patient would be treated in a clinic treating affluent clients.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
