As you begin in psychotherapy, I recognize and honor the courage it can take to embark on this journey. Life can be inherently stressful and overwhelming. Whether you’re coping with a recent issue or you’ve been struggling for some time, I’ll work with you to meet your specific goals. I view psychotherapy as a collaborative process that is unique to each person. You should feel safe, heard, and understood in the therapy relationship. This paves the way for you to develop a better understanding of yourself, explore ways of healing, and learn new skills.

One of the most difficult things to do is to recognize we need help... for even the strongest and most healthy can need a trusted mentor and healer at some point. Our personal lives and experiences shouldn't be trusted to just anyone; and it is difficult to find a qualified therapist who is both skilled in their work and able to connect with others in an empathetic way. Rob has this blend of unique and important abilities. He believes that successful therapy is working toward the ability to heal, recover, and thrive in one's life. Rob is a Clinical Director at Minisink Psychology & Psychotherapy in Ridgewood, NJ.

The great majority of my clients suffer from anxiety and depression often triggered by conflicts in families, school, jobs, with authority figures, and peers. I enable my clients unlock their strengths and skill sets to unstick themselves, address their barriers and conflicts, and find solutions. My client base includes teachers, students, law enforcement officers, parents, professionals, and financial advisers. Through my leadership experience in crises and trauma events (including 9/11), I have developed a coping model presented in my book, Resiliency. Anxiety is part of being human, but drowning in it shouldn't be. Jon Kabat-Zinn once said "You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf". It seems to be one thing after another leaving you more anxious than you already were. The overwhelming feeling of being stuck with no way out. The fear of the next panic attack. The next new thing making your heart race a million miles an hour. How do you even begin to process it all? Many times we have the tools already in our tool box but may not be aware they are there or how to utilize them. Let me work alongside you to find and strengthen your coping skills.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists
Who is DBT for?
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
