I have specialized training and experience working with
trauma
, and can help you increase understanding and coping skills to manage triggers and symptoms in order to build a sense of safety, or use EMDR to help you process events and beliefs keeping you stuck in the past so you can move forward when you feel ready to do so.
A therapy relationship is a real relationship, between equals. I take a collaborative approach, recognizing that people already know themselves, or have the potential to know themselves, better than anyone else, and yet we all have blind spots that can contribute to suffering. I work together with clients who are coping with depression, anxiety, difficult life transitions,
trauma
--both
PTSD
and complex
PTSD
, dissociative disorders, and self-harm behavior or other impulsive behaviors. I am intensively trained in DBT, and can teach you a variety of healthy coping skills to address any behavior or difficult emotions.

Research has found that EMDR is one of the most effective ways to treat
trauma
and relieve symptoms.
Current research indicates that the single greatest factor leading to successful outcomes in therapy is the relationship between client and therapist. We can create a safe space together. I’ll work with you to create and foster a safe, compassionate, judgment-free therapeutic space for you to breathe, think, explore, and be heard.

Specialties: relationships, sexuality,
trauma
, grief/loss, anxiety, separation/divorce, stress and embracing the constant changes life brings.
I want you to have the best life imaginable: to live in a body that can feel what it feels and with a mind that can know what it knows. I believe we heal through connection and relationship; it is how we survive then thrive. Sometimes we need to make meaning of our experiences; sometimes we just want to manage or reduce unwanted symptoms and sometimes we need someone to simply be present- to sit and witness and listen or hold the silence. I hope you will find all these elements working with me and together we will walk the path to healing. Come in and let's explore together!

My specialties include working with adolescents and adult that are experiencing one of the following: life transitions that are difficult to cope with,
trauma
, chronic illness/pain, anxiety, depression, existential and stage-of-life issues, and stress that has been difficult to manage on your own.
I believe strongly that we all have the capacity for positive change, no matter where we start out. Therapy should provide a warm, collaborative, and nonjudgmental space in which clients can explore new goals, solutions, and ways of being. I seek to empower clients by fostering greater awareness and understanding of their thoughts, behaviors, environments, and interpersonal patterns. My approach is tailored to each person and their needs, but often incorporates concepts from Cognitive-Behavioral, Interpersonal, and Person-Centered therapies, as well as Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction techniques.

/grief focused therapy and mindfulness - all customizable to the individual client's needs and desired outcomes.
Many of us struggle with everyday stressors. Whether stemming from family dynamics, work difficulties, anxiety, depression, relationship problems, low self esteem, identity confusion or a combination of contributors, these stressors can have a profound effect on our quality of life. Finding change and accepting support is a journey that takes time, compassion and patience. I offer psychotherapy for individuals, couples and families with a strengths-based approach, aimed at making clients feel engaged and vested in their treatment process. Through self reflection and collaborative efforts, I work with clients to balance these life stressors and make them more manageable.

I use an eclectic, strengths-based,
trauma
-informed approach to therapy that is integrative and collaborative.
Clients, as well as therapists, come in all shapes and sizes. When it comes to finding a good fit in a therapist, clients should feel safe and comfortable to be able to open up over time. Personality plays a huge role in compatibility. Down to earth, approachable, and relaxed are three qualities that describe my persona. I strive to provide clients with a safe space to feel respected, heard, and understood. I support clients in building effective communication skills, fostering meaningful relationships, practicing appropriate social skills, utilizing healthy coping strategies, and to establish and maintain healthy boundaries.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
