I have 23 years of training and experience working with adults who struggle with low self-esteem, imposter syndrome, anxiety, depression, bipolar, and anger. I'm also very experienced with clients working on transitions such as going to college, new job, marriage , starting a family, a divorce, or coping with a past or recent trauma. I've worked for many years in drug treatment too. I think clients are looking for a way to gain insight and awareness of how challenges effect their thinking, and want to learn new skills to improve how they feel and function in the world.

I have a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy.
My approach begins with the belief that individuals are resilient and may benefit from utilizing their own strengths to increase their resilience. Individuals often ask, “How do I build on my personal strengths?” My philosophy is that it is about identifying several factors; What you are passionate about? What motivates you? What interests allow you to be excited about today and look forward to tomorrow? Identification of these variables assist in attaining lifestyle balance, developing healthy coping skills, recognizing your priorities and problem solving.

Your relationship is falling apart. You and your partner seem like strangers and are no longer on the same page. You feel trapped, alone, empty and at the end of your rope. There’s barely any intimacy or affection, you’re constantly arguing, making you feel overwhelmed, like you can’t get anything right. It’s frustrating and nothing ever gets resolved. You don’t know how you got here. You’re constantly on edge, feeling depressed, anxious and burnt out. Perhaps you’ve just found out they’ve been cheating or maybe you’ve been separated for a while and you’re scared and unsure. Your marriage is in trouble and you need help now!

It is to walk alongside you in times of transition, stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship issues, marital and family conflict, or any other difficult experience life throws your way.
We have all been broken by life, fragmented by negative experiences, and sometimes we feel so broken that we are unable to pick up the pieces alone, but, fear not! Mental, emotional, spiritual, occupational, and social wellness is a process and not a state of mind. It is a level of perfection we ought to continually strive for, because those fragmented pieces of our lives CAN be put back together. Relationships CAN be mended, and CHANGE IS POSSIBLE, but it doesn't just happen; we have to be intentional. "We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope." -MLK

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
