My area of specialized training is in EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Mindfulness techniques, and
DBT
.
Offering in-person and virtual sessions! I come with a curiosity about attachment and early stages of development. My treatment approach is to help restore connection to yourself and your relationships through psychodynamic and trauma-informed therapies. Many people share how their negative beliefs, emotional discomfort and physical disturbance can “feel stuck” in their mind and nervous system. I work with clients to resolve present day problems and longstanding patterns in their lives (anxiety, phobias, PTSD, Depression and so on.) through the integration of mind, body and brain processing techniques.

Clients, as well as therapists, come in all shapes and sizes. When it comes to finding a good fit in a therapist, clients should feel safe and comfortable to be able to open up over time. Personality plays a huge role in compatibility. Down to earth, approachable, and relaxed are three qualities that describe my persona. I strive to provide clients with a safe space to feel respected, heard, and understood. I support clients in building effective communication skills, fostering meaningful relationships, practicing appropriate social skills, utilizing healthy coping strategies, and to establish and maintain healthy boundaries.

I enjoy working alongside those who need assistance with anxiety and related disorders. We all go through challenging times and are faced with difficult uncertainties. If you desire a relief from the often times debilitating "what-ifs", I would like to help. A therapy relationship is a real relationship, between equals. I take a collaborative approach, recognizing that people already know themselves, or have the potential to know themselves, better than anyone else, and yet we all have blind spots that can contribute to suffering. I work together with clients who are coping with depression, anxiety, difficult life transitions, trauma--both PTSD and complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, and self-harm behavior or other impulsive behaviors. I am intensively trained in
DBT

I am a Person-Centered therapist who utilizes an eclectic mix of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
Dialectical
Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems and Brief Solution Focused Therapy.
My approach begins with the belief that individuals are resilient and may benefit from utilizing their own strengths to increase their resilience. Individuals often ask, “How do I build on my personal strengths?” My philosophy is that it is about identifying several factors; What you are passionate about? What motivates you? What interests allow you to be excited about today and look forward to tomorrow? Identification of these variables assist in attaining lifestyle balance, developing healthy coping skills, recognizing your priorities and problem solving.

Divorce, illness, family and career changes can leave any one of us reeling, feeling beaten down, overwhelmed, confused and alone. A therapist can provide that safe non-judgmental space to explore thoughts, feelings and experiences that may be preventing you from moving forward. I work hard to tailor my approach to meet my client's needs always honoring the fact that this work is collaborative and each client is unique.

I use CBT,
DBT
, and Solution Focused work, using mindfulness, breathing techniques, visualization, and goal setting to help clients reach their short and long-term goals.
My ideal client is someone who comes to therapy in a time of need. They might be experiencing anxiety due to life changes and transitions or they might be experiencing symptoms of anxiety for the first time and be concerne as to where the anxiety came from. The client might be processing loss or grief from a loved one or past friendships and or relationships. My ideal client will have needs such as needing to identify coping skills to get through life stressors, assistance with reaching goals. As a therapist I would be able to provide the client with a objective perspective to bounce their ideas and situations off of.

The first step is looking for help and the next crucial piece is finding rapport with a therapist—maybe the most important part of therapy! I have training in
Dialectical
Behavioral Therapy (
DBT
), Imago, Mindfulness, and broader psychodynamic work and take a creative approach in treatment, putting together a range of interventions tailored to each individual.
Have you been thinking about therapy for a while, wondering if it's right for you? Are you looking for change in your life? These are questions which we may ask ourselves. I enjoy working with clients who are interested in change, increasing self-awareness, identifying patterns of thoughts and behaviors that have shaped their lives and then trying to reconfigure these in positive, grow-oriented ways. While I have worked with clients of all ages, across the lifespan, I do have deeper experience working with college and post-collegiate aged adults, new mothers, and anyone dealing with life transitions.

I have had extensive training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy,
Dialectical
Behavior Therapy and I like to create a space for clients to challenge themselves.
My ideal client would be someone who is trying to make connections from their past to the present, not to relive their past, but to understand why they may be struggling in the present. Learning to let go of old habits, old ways of thinking that were dysfunctional, is key to living mindfully in the present. Changing the response to the narrative is important to be able to move forward from your past experiences.

Therapy can be a richly rewarding process. Most important to its success is first establishing a non-judgmental, collaborative relationship so together we can identify and flexibly address your particular needs. From there our work may include identifying familiar patterned behaviors and learning specific coping and problem solving skills to allow for new ways to relate to yourself, to others, to strengthen your mind, and deepen your emotional resilience. Our work will draw on a combination of treatment modalities including short-term solution-focused practices, mindfulness, and neurobiological understandings.

Who is DBT for?
DBT is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.
Why do people need DBT?
The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.
What happens in DBT?
Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.
How long does DBT last?
Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
