I include elements of CBT,
ACT
, DBT, & family systems.
I offer therapy and assessment to people of all ages, 6 and up, who might be struggling with inattention, mood or anxiety, executive functioning, learning differences, family problems, or social difficulties. Therapy can help to develop self-knowledge and
acceptance
, confidence, and empowerment to make meaningful change. The goal of assessment is to identify a person’s unique neurodivergent strengths, challenges and needs. When I work with families, we look for solutions that respect the autonomy of all family members and addresses the emotional needs of kids - and their parents - who may be struggling with meeting expectations.

My approach to therapy is guided by
acceptance
, mindfulness, and compassion-based theory and is grounded in the philosophy that psychological suffering is universal and that we need not be fixed in order to live rich and meaningful lives.
Imagine that you are engaged in a battle of tug-of-war. In between is a dark bottomless pit that you struggle against falling into. Some days it looks like maybe you are winning the battle; other days you are barely avoiding falling in to the pit. Humans are hardwired for pain and suffering. The good news is that rooted deep within us is also the capacity for growth and transcendence. Readiness for therapy involves an opening up to new possibilities and experience and a willingness to learn more supportive ways of relating and responding to life’s challenges, or in other words, learning to drop the rope.

My therapeutic style is existential and humanistic in nature, and I utilize a trauma-sensitive approach when integrating various techniques, including CBT and
ACT
.
Lets be real. You’re in a bad spot and the last thing I want to do is bore you with optimistic clichés full of toxic positivity and lofty promises of healing and wellness. If you are having a difficult time adapting to everything going on around you and these “unprecedented times”, or if you are frustrated with the collective vibe to just accept crappy circumstances, you have come to the right place.

We all struggle at times; emotional and psychological anguish are part of the human condition. And yet these challenges can be reframed as an indication that change may be helpful. I am a strong believer in the profound gift that mental health support can confer and that seeking therapeutic support is an
act
of self-empowerment and strength. I have a private practice in Princeton, NJ where I specialize in the treatment of anxiety and depressive disorders, LGBTQIA+ issues, parenting concerns, family systems and eating disorders. In my private practice I work with preadolescents, adolescents, adults, couples and families.

I offer a hybrid practice: house calls & telehealth. I started my home visit practice to make therapy accessible to those who can't get to an office, and I remain deeply committed to that value. Chronic or progressive illness, chronic pain, physical disability, & even just an aging body can make travel to an office out of reach. Certainly telehealth has been a life saver; yet being able to meet safely in person to address worries and fears, sadness, grief, loneliness, isolation, and loss of meaning in life can be transformative. Are you willing to explore ways to be with life as it is, and
act
based on what's in your heart?

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.
What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.
Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.
How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
