Vulnerability and openness is necessary for any therapeutic relationship to be both effective and productive.
With close to 20 years of experience working for the Philadelphia Courts system and a background in communications prior to obtaining my Masters in Counseling Psychology, I excel at finding communicable common ground between individuals. I incorporate multiple treatment modalities in order to find the perfect combination of techniques in order to facilitate positive change in my clients' lives. My personal and professional philosophy is "Life is simple, people complicate it". Let's make things simple again.

Hi! I’m Meg and I am glad you're here. Looking for a therapist takes courage; I want to acknowledge the very challenging steps that you are taking to find support either for yourself or for a loved one. As a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) I view our mental wellbeing as a culmination of factors ranging from our genetics to our daily stressors which can sometimes make us feel like our world is crashing down all at once or that things are happening as a trickle with no rhyme or reason. Navigating our inner world simultaneously with the external world can be overwhelming.

My experience and focus in my practice and education are trauma informed care using both EMDR and traditional talk therapy techniques, couples therapy and grief and loss, divorce issues, and faith/spirituality issues.
My style tends to be direct and highly interactive with attention to how you make meaning. I listen closely to how you think and present yourself in order to understand and reflect back the perspective you are offering and how that may impact how you are approaching the issues you are facing.

I specialize in working with adults who are interested in changing repetitive habitual patterns that keep them stuck in unfulfilling relationships or work situations.
I have integrated my years of training and experience in mind/ body approaches into a wholistic therapy approach for healing trauma , loss, relationship struggles, life transitions and many other problems. IFS therapy is the model that underpins much of the therapy work I do. It is a non pathologizing, deeply healing, compassionate therapy.

FAQ - About Couples Therapy
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
