Using a mixture of cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and humor (lots of humor), I work with women who are struggling to determine who they are right now and to understand their own personal developmental process through in-person or tele-health counseling.
Taking new patients, In-Person or Telehealth! You need to be perfect. You need to have the perfect career, the perfect home, the perfect children, the perfect life. Whether you are a perfectionistic mom in the grips of an overthinking mind, or a student athlete who constantly feels the pressure to perform, I help overthinking perfectionists learn how to relax without guilt and enjoy their lives without the shame of feeling inadequate.

I work with adults and specialize in perinatal mood and anxiety disorders in women .
It's hard to ask for help, so you have taken a really good first step in finding help and feeling better. A significant piece of meaningful and effective therapy is the relationship you have with your therapist. When it's the right fit, therapy can be a wonderful part of your life and can lead to feeling more grounded, confident and empowered. I am grateful to be in this work. It is a privilege to hear the stories of my clients and be a part of their journey.

Do others see you as a woman who has it all together? Inside, are you feeling like you're falling apart? Do feelings of emptiness consume you? For many women suffering with emotional wounds, anxiety, isolation and hopelessness can become a daily part of life. Sometimes managing painful times from the past intrude on their ability to enjoy the present. Sometimes compulsive eating patterns, substance abuse, spending or even relationships seem like the only way to numb the pain. You don't have to face it alone. We can work together to find new solutions for wellness, healing and recovery.

Are you discerning whether or not to stay in a current relationship? This can be a painful space. I believe we all have access to deep, still waters within us that can guide and direct us to deeper peace and clarity. Sometimes, we struggle to access that "knowing part" of us. I have 20 years of helping guide men, women , couples, adolescents and families gain skills and find deeper, more peaceful waters in seasons of grief, anxiety, depression, divorce & couple's conflict.

How you feel is valid, your story matters, and you deserve to be heard. It can be hard to listen to that healthy voice inside of you that desires guidance and support. I want to take a moment to acknowledge your bravery for taking the first step in your journey. It can be challenging to navigate through various transitions during adulthood where social, emotional, biological and psychological changes are vibrant. Therapy can provide you not only support during these times but also education and tools to help you succeed.

Stop the unhealthy relationship cycle, find new ways of getting your emotional needs met. I help individuals, who have struggled in their relationships, gain a better understanding of how the cycle of unhealthy relationships began. We explore how to create healthier, more fulfilling, emotional connections in a collaborative, nurturing, nonjudgmental environment. My clients, are often successful in life, but they also talk about how they are never happy or fulfilled in their current relationships. They talk about the difficult childhood that they had and often recognize the connection between the two.

Congratulations on taking the first step- it’s often the hardest! We all seek happiness, self-gratification and inner peace; and at times we all need support getting there. I have been practicing as a clinician in the field for over 15 years. I’ve built my career on developing mental health programs and providing clinical counseling for the most vulnerable youth and adults. I have worked in various professional settings helping clients with issues of trauma, stress, anxiety, loss, grief, chronic illness, and relationship and interpersonal issues. Additionally, I have a passion for working with LGBTQ youth and their families.

One of the most difficult aspects of being a parent is seeing your child in pain and feeling like there is nothing that you can do to help. Have you become increasingly concerned about your child's behavior at home or school? Do you worry that your child is struggling with day to day functioning? Are their behaviors difficult to understand and manage? Does the smallest thing seem to trigger your child? Is your teen withdrawing and not engaging in activities that once brought them joy? Is your teen engaging in harmful behaviors?

Life can be tough sometimes, whether it be a challenging life transition or contemplating whether your current relationship is your best path forward. Working together to develop a plan for your own wellness, without judgment, is the goal. For people who are uncertain about their relationship to alcohol and other drugs, we can explore this relationship together without the expectation for abstinence, I do understand people ebb and flow with their use and not everyone needs to give it up to recover from problematic use. Families of people who use drugs often feel scared and powerless, but you are powerful, you can make a difference.

Like our fingerprints, there are no two people who will have the exact experiences, pain, struggles or stories. Everyone's pain will show up differently and everyone's story will have a tale that needs to be told. What is the same for most people is the need and want to find release from their pain, healing from their stories and a future to look forward to. When we work together, this is always our goal although our path to get there may look different from your friend, co-worker or family member. This is treatment designed for you and your unique story and needs.

What is Art Therapy? This is the number one question asked of me. Briefly, as defined by the American Art Therapy Association (AATA), "Art therapy is a mental health profession in which clients, facilitated by the art therapist, use art media, the creative process, and the resulting artwork to explore their feelings, reconcile emotional conflicts, foster self-awareness, manage behavior and addictions, develop social skills, improve reality orientation, reduce anxiety, and increase self-esteem. A goal in art therapy is to improve or restore a client's functioning and his/her sense of personal well-being." The creative process lends itself readily to meeting the individual where they are at in the present moment. My personal style mirrors this. I utilize both the non-verbal and verbal processes to facilitate understanding, awareness and growth. My particular areas of expertise are grief/loss, attachment issues (i.e.foster care/adoption), trauma, mood instability, and disordered personality.

Female Therapists

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
