We all face times in our lives that present seemingly insurmountable difficulties. It is part of our human experience. I also know that when we receive compassionate and skilled support, these times can lead to incredible growth and transformation. I consider it a privilege to be a supportive presence to my clients during the times when they have to find strength they didn't know they had. We all have the internal resilience to overcome every challenge life puts in our paths. I have a particular interest in helping clients move through traumatic grief and loss related to
relationship
loss, miscarriage, and infertility.

Often times we seek therapy because of struggles in relationships, adjusting to a new phase in life, uncertainty about the future, family stress, anxiety, & depression. You don't need to wait until you are in crisis to get help. Learning the balance between self-care & community care is a practice. Together we can explore different tools that can support you to work through emotions & patterns that may have happened in the past, but are playing a part in your desire to grow now. We don't choose what happens to us, but it is part of our journey to work through them. Our work together is to increase your choices and awareness.

Throughout my career, I have specialized in working with individuals,
couples
, and families dealing complex trauma, PTSD, early childhood and relational trauma, anger management, high-conflict relationships, substance abuse, anger management, and both DCPP and/or court-involved clients.
Often individuals who have experienced on-going internal or relational conflict feel stuck in a cycle that they can't seem to control no matter how many attempts or strategies they try. In the confusion and exhaustion, they give up and give in to hopelessness, low self-worth, shame, anger, and fear. This leads into more alienation, suffering, and despair. Those who want to heal the
relationship
with themselves and with those they love can rediscover the self that is trapped under all of the pain, anger, and fear. With empathic support, knowledge, and adequate resources, healing is possible.

relationship
. This allows us to build trust and space for you to develop healthy autonomy in therapy and life. Whatever the reason you came upon my profile, I welcome you!

Our approach focuses on developing a safe, collaborative
relationship
where new insights and change is possible.
Do others see you as a woman who has it all together? Inside, are you feeling like you're falling apart? Do feelings of emptiness consume you? For many women suffering with emotional wounds, anxiety, isolation and hopelessness can become a daily part of life. Sometimes managing painful times from the past intrude on their ability to enjoy the present. Sometimes compulsive eating patterns, substance abuse, spending or even relationships seem like the only way to numb the pain. You don't have to face it alone. We can work together to find new solutions for wellness, healing and recovery.

I believe that connections heal and that you feeling seen, heard and understood in a therapeutic
relationship
is paramount.
I am certain that people have within them the capacity to grow, change and find a better balance in their lives. In my sessions, I provide clients with practical tools and coping skills to apply to everyday situations. I was intensively trained in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy in 2010 by Behavioral Tech, LLC and use DBT as a basis for therapy. We examine how negative self-talk perpetuates the cycle of depression and anxiety and set about to replace it with positive thought processes. We explore ways to restore connections and communication in your relationships, rediscover self-care and build a life worth living.

Stop the unhealthy
relationship
cycle, find new ways of getting your emotional needs met. I help individuals, who have struggled in their relationships, gain a better understanding of how the cycle of unhealthy relationships began. We explore how to create healthier, more fulfilling, emotional connections in a collaborative, nurturing, nonjudgmental environment. My clients, are often successful in life, but they also talk about how they are never happy or fulfilled in their current relationships. They talk about the difficult childhood that they had and often recognize the connection between the two.

It's hard to ask for help, so you have taken a really good first step in finding help and feeling better. A significant piece of meaningful and effective therapy is the
relationship
you have with your therapist. When it's the right fit, therapy can be a wonderful part of your life and can lead to feeling more grounded, confident and empowered. I am grateful to be in this work. It is a privilege to hear the stories of my clients and be a part of their journey.

My experience includes working with high risk and disabled children and adolescents, family therapy and individual work with adults and
couples
.
Like our fingerprints, there are no two people who will have the exact experiences, pain, struggles or stories. Everyone's pain will show up differently and everyone's story will have a tale that needs to be told. What is the same for most people is the need and want to find release from their pain, healing from their stories and a future to look forward to. When we work together, this is always our goal although our path to get there may look different from your friend, co-worker or family member. This is treatment designed for you and your unique story and needs.

Life can be tough sometimes, whether it be a challenging life transition or contemplating whether your current
relationship
is your best path forward. Working together to develop a plan for your own wellness, without judgment, is the goal. For people who are uncertain about their
relationship
to alcohol and other drugs, we can explore this
relationship
together without the expectation for abstinence, I do understand people ebb and flow with their use and not everyone needs to give it up to recover from problematic use. Families of people who use drugs often feel scared and powerless, but you are powerful, you can make a difference.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
