When working with immediate areas of concern for clients, I use techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy to help clients develop problem-solving skills, determine personal goals and reduce stress and anxiety. For clients addressing unresolved difficult past experiences, I use psychodynamic Attachment Theory. I have a particular interest in helping adolescents develop insights and skills to create a personally meaningful life. I have experience working with clients with anxiety, depression, academic stress, and
relationship
difficulties.

Often times we seek therapy because of struggles in relationships, adjusting to a new phase in life, uncertainty about the future, family stress, anxiety, & depression. You don't need to wait until you are in crisis to get help. Learning the balance between self-care & community care is a practice. Together we can explore different tools that can support you to work through emotions & patterns that may have happened in the past, but are playing a part in your desire to grow now. We don't choose what happens to us, but it is part of our journey to work through them. Our work together is to increase your choices and awareness.

Throughout my career, I have specialized in working with individuals,
couples
, and families dealing complex trauma, PTSD, early childhood and relational trauma, anger management, high-conflict relationships, substance abuse, anger management, and both DCPP and/or court-involved clients.
Often individuals who have experienced on-going internal or relational conflict feel stuck in a cycle that they can't seem to control no matter how many attempts or strategies they try. In the confusion and exhaustion, they give up and give in to hopelessness, low self-worth, shame, anger, and fear. This leads into more alienation, suffering, and despair. Those who want to heal the
relationship
with themselves and with those they love can rediscover the self that is trapped under all of the pain, anger, and fear. With empathic support, knowledge, and adequate resources, healing is possible.

Stop the unhealthy
relationship
cycle, find new ways of getting your emotional needs met. I help individuals, who have struggled in their relationships, gain a better understanding of how the cycle of unhealthy relationships began. We explore how to create healthier, more fulfilling, emotional connections in a collaborative, nurturing, nonjudgmental environment. My clients, are often successful in life, but they also talk about how they are never happy or fulfilled in their current relationships. They talk about the difficult childhood that they had and often recognize the connection between the two.

Life can be tough sometimes, whether it be a challenging life transition or contemplating whether your current
relationship
is your best path forward. Working together to develop a plan for your own wellness, without judgment, is the goal. For people who are uncertain about their
relationship
to alcohol and other drugs, we can explore this
relationship
together without the expectation for abstinence, I do understand people ebb and flow with their use and not everyone needs to give it up to recover from problematic use. Families of people who use drugs often feel scared and powerless, but you are powerful, you can make a difference.

I will
partner
with you to help your child heal, develop healthy coping skills, strengthen relationships within the family, and build resiliency skills that aid your child though adulthood.
One of the most difficult aspects of being a parent is seeing your child in pain and feeling like there is nothing that you can do to help. Have you become increasingly concerned about your child's behavior at home or school? Do you worry that your child is struggling with day to day functioning? Are their behaviors difficult to understand and manage? Does the smallest thing seem to trigger your child? Is your teen withdrawing and not engaging in activities that once brought them joy? Is your teen engaging in harmful behaviors?

My experience includes working with high risk and disabled children and adolescents, family therapy and individual work with adults and
couples
.
Like our fingerprints, there are no two people who will have the exact experiences, pain, struggles or stories. Everyone's pain will show up differently and everyone's story will have a tale that needs to be told. What is the same for most people is the need and want to find release from their pain, healing from their stories and a future to look forward to. When we work together, this is always our goal although our path to get there may look different from your friend, co-worker or family member. This is treatment designed for you and your unique story and needs.

As a nonbinary, transmasculine therapist who has lived experience and advanced education & training working with the marginalized and oppressed, specifically LGBTQIA+ adolescents, adults & their loved ones, I listen first and speak second. As human beings, we need connection to develop, cope, and thrive. Through an integrative approach tailored to your situation, I work from an attachment-based starting point where judgment has no place in the therapeutic
relationship
. This allows us to build trust and space for you to develop healthy autonomy in therapy and life. Whatever the reason you came upon my profile, I welcome you!

Feeling stuck or out of control? Stressed out or totally overwhelmed? You may be a good match! My ideal client is an adolescent or adult navigating depression, anxiety, or life transitions. You might (but don't have to) be defining your LGBTQ+ identity, exploring nonmonogamy, or considering your
relationship
with sex. All I ask is that you are open to exploring your thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a nonjudgmental space. Together, we’ll discover what in life helps you feel your best, and I’ll challenge you to commit to actions that align with your values. If this sounds like you, get in touch.

Our approach focuses on developing a safe, collaborative
relationship
where new insights and change is possible.
Do others see you as a woman who has it all together? Inside, are you feeling like you're falling apart? Do feelings of emptiness consume you? For many women suffering with emotional wounds, anxiety, isolation and hopelessness can become a daily part of life. Sometimes managing painful times from the past intrude on their ability to enjoy the present. Sometimes compulsive eating patterns, substance abuse, spending or even relationships seem like the only way to numb the pain. You don't have to face it alone. We can work together to find new solutions for wellness, healing and recovery.

It's hard to ask for help, so you have taken a really good first step in finding help and feeling better. A significant piece of meaningful and effective therapy is the
relationship
you have with your therapist. When it's the right fit, therapy can be a wonderful part of your life and can lead to feeling more grounded, confident and empowered. I am grateful to be in this work. It is a privilege to hear the stories of my clients and be a part of their journey.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
