Welcome to your new creative, therapeutic space! I’m so glad you’re here. Life can be challenging, & navigating life after a traumatic experience or during a major transition can be especially difficult. It's easy to internalize our struggles for the sake of caring for others, often putting our needs on the back burner and denying ourselves support. But that lack of support can contribute to challenges that often negatively impact the quality of our relationships and the overall quality of our lives. These can be our relationships with co-workers, our relationships with intimate partners, and even our relationships with ourselves.

I am most effective with clients who are looking to change patterns of relationship or behavior that have become problematic in their lives. Whether you are struggling with an eating disorder, coping with traumatic experience, or an unhappy relationship, I will seek to work creatively with you to understand yourself with compassion and move toward the changes in your life that you are seeking. Often this process involves exploring how past experiences influence your current life, combined with developing practical ways to shift patterns in the present.

Taking new clients in now. Hope, positivity, and resiliency are achievable outcomes from therapy. To get there, I aim to create a safe and open space to allow for change and ultimate wellness. I believe the client is the expert, and I thrive working with people who want to feel more empowered in their own lives. I advocate for social justice with my clients and in the community, and part of that advocacy includes healthy boundaries and radical self-care. I am able to acknowledge my visible privilege and hold space for others' seen and unseen marginalized identities as we work through complex issues related to their unique lives.

My speciality is working with individuals experiencing issues with stress, anxiety, depression, addiction, over-eating, grief and trauma. My approach is to first identify existing coping strategies to deal with the current stressors. Together, we sort out the underlying problems and identify and develop a tool kit with more effective coping strategies for the many challenges that the world throws at you. We examine and re-frame your emotional reactions to current and past trauma. The relationship between therapist and client is really important for change; and I do my best to provide a warm, natural, humorous and relaxed atmosphere.

You’re used to holding it all together, but your mind doesn’t slow down. You may find yourself overthinking, second-guessing decisions, or feeling stuck in patterns, especially in relationships. Even when everything looks “fine” on the outside. I work with individuals who are ready to better understand themselves and learn practical ways to feel more grounded and in control. Together, we’ll explore the patterns that keep showing up in your life, how you respond to stress, how you show up in relationships, and how your past experiences may still be influencing you today.

Attachment-based Therapists
Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?
Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?
Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?
Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?
Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
