“What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” - Ralph Waldo Emerson. This is my favorite quote and what I try to reinforce when working with my clients. I believe therapy is a healing journey that consists of gaining awareness, insight, and growth. I work with my clients on identifying and setting concrete goals in order to move beyond their obstacles. I concentrate on helping my clients overcome negative thinking patterns while building self-esteem as they navigate life’s challenges.

As a clinical psychologist, I work to help individuals and families overcome their obstacles to achieving emotional and physical well- being.. Your anxiety and depression or other psychological problems are treated in the context of an empathic and personal therapeutic relationship. These disorders present differently at different life stages and need age/stage related attention. We are all challenged, at times, by our thoughts, feelings, actions, or life situations. I believe we each have the capacity to be resilient. I use active listening and responding to give you a sense of safety and support, so you can become aware of your needs, goals, and values. In therapy, you are able to cultivate healthy and effective ways of dealing with anxiety, anger, stress , depressed mood and difficult interpersonal experiences.

Although I have a general practice, I also provide specialized treatment for
women's issues
, such as postpartum depression, menopause, history of abuse, and eating disorders.
You can help yourself become healthier and happier. As an experienced psychologist, I enjoy working collaboratively with adults and couples to achieve this goal. I value these clients as individuals and approach them in a caring, nonjudgmental way. Although my training has provided me with a wide variety of tools, my experience has taught me which tools are most likely to help in any given situation. Some approaches I use are: psychodynamic, cognitive-behavioral, behavioral, and interpersonal. In addition, I believe in educating clients about the therapy process so that they can be a partner in their own treatment.

My private practice is focused on helping individuals of all ages who are experiencing life transitions, depression, anxiety, trauma, addiction, parenting, and
women's issues
including postpartum depression.
I believe most people are innately resilient, and only need a fresh perspective to help them to restore balance to their lives. I begin by getting to know my client's unique life experience, beliefs, concerns, and behaviors. We then work together to identify, challenge and discard self-limiting beliefs and behaviors, and help them choose more constructive beliefs and behaviors that produce positive life outcomes.

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. Starting therapy is a decision to work towards making desired changes for your overall wellness. Making changes or thinking about making changes can cause you to feel nervous, stressed, ashamed, overwhelmed, or maybe even afraid. I want to thank you for your courage and commitment to taking the first step in caring for yourself by starting therapy. Your willingness to start is what counts, not how long it took you to get here.

Are you pregnant, ready to enjoy the 'pregnancy glow,' or a new mom, hoping to 'enjoy this stage while it lasts?' Yet inside, you feel alone, in need of support. You are not sure if you ate lunch today, cannot recall the last time you had a decent night's sleep, and are in constant worry. Perhaps you are concerned about your baby's health, have undesirable thoughts popping up, or feel detached and alone. You have a strong desire to speak to someone and find support, but the idea of finding someone who you are comfortable with appears daunting and far too exhausting.

Being human can feel messy and complicated at times. Being in a space of transition can feel challenging. We may experience these struggles as sadness, confusion, feeling lost, or alone. Determining the path forward can feel overwhelming, yet by taking the first step, hope can be found. I believe it is essential to be able to identify where we feel stuck in order to be able to take meaningful action. By determining the different areas in your life where you would like to create change, you will be able to discover your empowerment.

Therapy is a special place to explore who you truly are and what makes you happy. If you are not feeling fulfilled, it is time to do something about that! Life is short and the capacity to look at how you deal with situations can require a special kind of honesty in order to make a real change. I would love the opportunity to work with you to help you make these important changes.

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.
How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
