OCD
, anxiety disorders, mood disorders, and comorbid medical issues.
Dr. Morris is a clinical psychologist who provides a range of evidence-based therapy, group, and consulting services to children, adolescents, adults, families, schools, and organizations. She has an active and direct therapeutic style, which can be described more like coaching than traditional psychotherapy. She likes to infuse humor and irreverence throughout her work, disarming her clients and keeping the difficult process of confronting one’s issues as engaging and interesting as possible. Her goal is to increase motivation and reduce barriers that keep clients stuck in ineffective patterns in their lives and relationships.

I have particular expertise in the areas of depression, anxiety and
obsessive
compulsive disorder (
OCD

Most people enter therapy looking to change some aspect of their lives. Some people know exactly how they want their lives to be different and simply need help developing skills to achieve their goals. Other people may need to spend more time determining exactly what type of change they need.

My passion is providing the best evidence based treatment for Anxiety,
OCD
and related disorders. I know personally how debilitating
OCD
can be as a parent of children with
OCD
. I also know that evidenced based treatment works and people can reclaim their lives and pursue those things in life that bring them meaning and joy. I received specialized training through the IOCDF (International
OCD
Foundation) and NOCD in Exposure and Response Prevention, the gold standard treatment for
OCD
and completed SPACE training, a parent-based treatment program for children and adolescents with anxiety. I have advanced training in CBT.

My professional experience includes anxiety, depression, eating disorders, body image complexities, and
OCD
. Everyone has their specialty, I admit my best work rests at the intersection of emotions, thought, and food. Together, we can figure out how we physically embody such an experience habitually and recognize how it blocks our ability to find happiness. I find this to be one of the more difficult experiences to explore as it often feels no one gets it. If you're seeking a more humanistic approach, give me a call.

I am a psychotherapist with over 45 years experience treating adults, older children, adolescents and couples. Sometimes people need help with specific problems such as marital discord, parenting, extended family conflicts or navigating life transitions. Persistent concerns such as lowered self-esteem, a pattern of unsuccessful romantic or work relationships, addictions, anxiety, depression and
obsessive
/compulsive behaviors often benefit from a professional hand. The goal of therapy is to make you aware of the patterns and beliefs that impair your ability to relate successfully with others and improve your self-esteem.

I work with people who are contending with anxiety, eating/body issues,
OCD
traits, mood issues, issues of self-worth, loneliness.
Psychotherapy is a unique experience, in that it is acceptable and encouraged that you share all of your thoughts and feelings, to include those that you might more typically withhold in other contexts. Ideally, you will have an experience of feeling affirmed/acknowledged, thoroughly listened to, and seen as a complex human being. That said, it can take a long time to feel free enough to share yourself in this vulnerable way, and it is important that we move at your own pace, plus respect that there are reasons why certain pieces of you are kept protected away. You lead the way; I will support you in your process.

Every accomplishment starts with the decision to try. Starting therapy is a decision to work towards making desired changes for your overall wellness. Making changes or thinking about making changes can cause you to feel nervous, stressed, ashamed, overwhelmed, or maybe even afraid. I want to thank you for your courage and commitment to taking the first step in caring for yourself by starting therapy. Your willingness to start is what counts, not how long it took you to get here.

How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
