Post-graduate training in family therapy gives me a systems perspective, even when working with individuals, and my work in addictions has given me years of experience using cognitive/behavioral therapy.
The decision to begin therapy usually comes at times of stress and change in one's life. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental, therapeutic relationship that honors the courage to ask for help and supports change in the face of challenge. Together, we identify issues you want to work on, recognizing your uniqueness and building on your strengths, to help you come to the solutions that work for you. I have worked with clients with a variety of problems including depression, anxiety, difficulties in relationships, substance abuse, grief and loss. I work with adults, couples and families.

You're exhausted! Balancing the demands of relationships, family , school and work these past few years has been so challenging. Maybe your relationships are strained and you feel empty, overextended or conflicted. Perhaps school or work has been draining and you feel burnt out. Feeling the weight on your chest and worries racing through your mind about not doing enough, juggling enough or even being enough. Unwinding for a few minutes on Netflix or your phone turns into hours. It would be so welcoming to find some control or peace or just grasp some understanding of what to do next to feel more like you...

I practice from a cognitive- behavioral, family systems perspective which means the focus of treatment is the goal directed acquisition of social and emotional skills.
My focus is on the treatment of children, adolescents and families. Children often present with behavior and learning challenges, anxiety, depression, stress and technology obsessions. Parents play a significant role in developing goals and strategies. I also focus on the adolescent years and work frequently with school stress, social challenges, anxiety, depression, technology inundations and athletic performance. Overarching is the culture and dynamic of the families in which children and adolescents live. The goal is to feel better about our self, interact better with those in our life and develop skills to manage.

I am trained in many trauma focused therapies that facilitate this deeper healing process - EMDR, Internal Family Systems, NARM, Somatic Experiencing-but above all consider myself to be a relational and relatable therapist who prioritizes the relationship with my clients as the primary healing agent.
Are you tired of experiencing the same patterns and want to heal at the root of your symptoms? I specialize in treating trauma, addictions, and self esteem issues - in particularly with women and teenagers. When my clients first come in, their lives are overrun by fear and insecurities. They carry around deep shame about who they are and never feel quite “good enough”. They want to be confident and heal the patterns that are holding them back but do not know where to start.

Additionally, if you have had trouble finding services with someone skilled in the treatment of toddlers and young children; if your teen or young adult suffers from anxiety and depression; or if your child or family is planning to adopt or managing post-adoption adjustment or attachment disorder, I have the specialized training to help with these concerns.
If you would like to resolve longstanding feelings of depression and anxiety, feelings of loss, the symptoms of trauma, or a tendency to repeat the same problems in relationships, you may have found that time-limited, symptom-focused therapy hasn't relieved your suffering. Perhaps it has even discouraged you from thinking you can find a lasting solution to your problems. You may feel hopeless about being able to stop what seems like a repeating series of crises, feeling resigned to suffer or cope with difficulty.

I wanted to get into the mental health field from a young age, as I was always surrounded by friends and family who struggled with mental health.
I am a Licensed Social Worker with a passion for decreasing the stigma surrounding mental health and promoting the health and well being of my clients. For my undergraduate degree, I moved from Central Jersey (Yes! It exists!) to South Jersey to attend Stockton University. I received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work with a Minor in Behavioral Neuroscience from Stockton, and then moved on to attend graduate school in Philadelphia. I received my Master of Social Work Degree with a clinical concentration from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice in May of 2020.

I use an integrated approach to psychotherapy, grounded in Person Centered (Rogerian) Therapy and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy, but drawing on different disciplines such as DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy) and IFS (Integrated Family Systems) when appropriate.
I am dually licensed as an LPC and LCADC. The path I took to become a therapist was a long and winding one which provided me with a rich diversity of experience to draw from in my work. I received a degree in Creative Writing from the University of Montana in Missoula, where I also began my study of Zen, and eventually spent over 20 years as an Information Technology professional. I have been married for nearly 30 years and, together with my wife, have raised two sons who are now young adults.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
