Facing life's challenges takes courage and there is always a path toward change, but sometimes we need support along the way. Counseling can help develop insight and healthier ways of coping, as well as, increase self-fulfillment. I work with clients to better understand their emotions, change unhealthy behavior patterns and work through
family
and relationship conflict. Learning to cope with anxiety and depression, processing grief or trauma and recovering from substance abuse are common problems I work on with clients. Together, we can navigate what often seems overwhelming when faced alone.

We can work together to build skills and work through transitional struggles, stress, relationship issues,
family
conflict, poor communication skills, depression, anxiety, or anger.
Feeling stuck is a hard place to be. A moment of relief is always welcomed in life that is fast pace and at times overwhelming; but moments are just temporary. It is possible to attain a life in which you feel relief to a point where you have freedom and opportunity to be your best and most healthy self. Maybe you don't know what a healthy self looks like anymore? Maybe you don't have the time or energy? You are not alone. Now is the time to restart, rebuild, and redefine who you are. Together, I can help individuals become more aware of unhealthy patterns, build mastery with coping skills, and develop a more positive lifestyle.

As the author of nine non-fiction books on
family
relationships, true crime and health, who spent many years in the media arena, I understand how the pressures of coping with a constantly shifting world can drive one to wonder if peace and harmony is even possible.
Life is hard and trauma of all kinds can wear down the strongest of us! But it is the strong who actually ask for help to deal with the challenges that life today throws at us. As a Cognitive-Behavioral therapist who practices from the Strengths Perspective, I work with my clients to identify those thoughts, behaviors and situations that might be holding them back, and implement a plan that will meet their goals. My goal is not to keep anyone in therapy for the rest of their lives, but rather to utilize therapy to overcome their challenges and achieve the inner peace they deserve.

I have extensive experience in working with individuals, marital relationships and
family
problems.
Therapy is a special place to explore who you truly are and what makes you happy. If you are not feeling fulfilled, it is time to do something about that! Life is short and the capacity to look at how you deal with situations can require a special kind of honesty in order to make a real change. I would love the opportunity to work with you to help you make these important changes.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
