I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and also find Internal
Family Systems
to be a helpful model.
Carving out time to air your concerns with a therapist you are comfortable with can bring relief and help you navigate a path that feels meaningful, fulfilling, and authentic. I work primarily with individual adults. Some of my areas of focus are: identity, anxiety, depression, relationships, stress, self-esteem, adoption, coping skills, spirituality, trauma, LGBTQ+, life crises and transitions. Often when you address one area, clarifying and working with what is within your control, other areas improve as well, as you access your strengths.

As a professional working in the mental health field for over 15 years, I strongly believe in the change people can make in their lives. My goal is to provide a safe space where clients feel comfortable to share their experiences, challenges, thoughts, feelings and dreams; and discuss these together to support meaningful change. I believe everyone and every family has a story to tell. I also believe therapy is collaborative. You're the expert on you and your family; and this is the foundation of our work together.

My clinical practice style is eclectic, influenced by AEDP (Level One,)
IFS
, psychodynamic, and CBT, along with meditation/mindfulness training, and I am a certified yoga instructor.
Psychotherapy should be individualized, supportive, adaptive, and promote increased feelings of wellbeing, a heightened sense of competence or mastery, enhanced coping skills, stress reduction, and improved interpersonal relationships. Everyone is different, and our first sessions will focus on an exploration of your unique needs, strengths, preferences and abilities. Psychotherapy can be brief and solution-focused, but is often a lengthier relationship in which we examine lifelong themes and patterns. Please note, I typically work with individuals who can make a regular, weekly commitment to attend therapy.

Therapy is a collaborative process that hinges on a relationship of trust and understanding. I offer my clients a warm, supportive and non-judgmental space where together we can explore and resolve whatever challenges you may be experiencing. Many of us have developed adaptations to our environments which may result in patterns and behaviors that no longer serve us. The work of therapy is to examine these adaptions with compassion and explore opportunities for growth and change.

Perhaps it seems that life feels harder than it should be, or you are unable to manage stress and your emotions in a way that you would like. Maybe you feel isolated or depressed, or are concerned about some of your habits, behaviors or relationships. The challenges and struggles you might be facing, although very painful at times, can actually be an invitation to engage in the journey of becoming a better version of your self. Whether you are dealing with difficult emotions, self-defeating behaviors, relationship/parenting issues, or just a feeling that something is off, attuned and compassionate therapy can help.

Therefore, I integrate mindfulness, EMDR and parts work (
IFS
) with my clients so that they feel more connected to themselves and others.
As a psychologist I work collaboratively with my clients to address their concerns (both in-person and via teleheath). I have extensive experience working from an interpersonal perspective with adolescents and adults dealing with depression, anxiety, relationship issues, family issues, trauma, loss and adjustment to life changes (e.g. illness, divorce). I believe it is important to explore how a client's family background, culture and social environment play a role in the challenges my clients are experiencing. I view people as resilient and help clients to use their strengths and resources to make positive changes in their lives.

Every day we make choices, big and small. In doing so, we create our ever-unfolding life story. I work with my clients to better understand what their unique "storyline" has been about; how their "script" originally got written; and how their present life challenges can be opportunities for discovering hidden strengths. These strengths are important, as they will serve my clients very well in their next life chapter.

I am a Level 1 trained Internal
Family Systems
Therapist.
Guiding you in accessing resources for your own healing is some of the work we will do in therapy. I work with clients in a holistic and authentic manner that strives to explore and hold space for multiple aspects of the human experience. I offer therapy that is grounded by strong theoretical frameworks, applied with a creative, client-led approach. Process art has become a foundation of the work I do with children and adolescents, providing a mode of expression that encourages the development of freedom and control which equates to regulation. Children have fun and learn self-regulation skills simultaneously.

Using an approach informed by Internal

and DBT, I will help you build a new, different, more compassionate relationship with yourself that will change your relationship with others.
Are you a woman who grew up in a challenging or even unsafe family environment? Do you struggle with self-judgement, self-doubt, or self-sabotage? Do you find yourself confused in personal/professional relationships? If so, you may believe your difficulties are your own fault, and that if only you could be better or stronger, things would be easier. In truth, you may be dealing with unhealed trauma. Unsteady attachment to one or both parents can be the unrecognized source of a lot of adult suffering, Understanding its impact and learning to care for yourself instead of judging yourself is the path to freedom.

A beautiful thing about our bodies is that our bodies can talk to us. Our bodies can provide us with data that can be beneficial to our mental and physical state of being. Breaking down and analyzing that data can be key to understanding what we need to help ourselves. We can discuss trauma recovery, relationship intimacy (including monogamy, polyamory, and open relationships), sex positivity, BDSM and kink, peer relationships, family relationships, body image, anxiety, stress, depression, self growth, and life transitions.

If you have a difficult time making decisions, saying no, expressing your feelings, handling conflicts- if you feel like a fraud, unworthy, or like you have to reflect the perfect image, you may have unresolved trauma around being raised by a narcissistic parent. Feeling invisible, unheard or unworthy may be a common side-effect of this type of childhood. The tendency to neglect your own needs can lead to exhaustion, burnout or depression and the fallout is in line with post traumatic stress disorder. I am here to provide the space for healing, for growth and for grieving the losses that accompany this type of upbringing

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists
What is Internal Family Systems therapy?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.
How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.
Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?
IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.
How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?
As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
