I specialize in working with children that are experiencing anxiety, depression, behavioral challenges, and trauma, as well as children on autistic spectrum. My treatment approach is integrative and use different therapy modalities to best fit the child and
family
. I also work with parents to understand how their child's behaviors are impacting the
family
with a goal of providing parents with strategies to support their day-to-day routines. I do not treat only the "symptoms" but look for the underlying challenges in order to help long term.

I have undergone post-graduate training in Psychodynamic, Emotionally Focused, Internal
Family
Systems, and Mindfulness-Based Psychotherapy.
Every day we make choices, big and small. In doing so, we create our ever-unfolding life story. I work with my clients to better understand what their unique "storyline" has been about; how their "script" originally got written; and how their present life challenges can be opportunities for discovering hidden strengths. These strengths are important, as they will serve my clients very well in their next life chapter.

People seek therapy for many reasons. Perhaps you are in a crisis, confronting a life transition (divorce, retirement, death, illness, empty nest, new relationship), having difficulty coping with work stress, using/abusing substances, or "feeling stuck" and unable to make positive life changes. I believe that most of us have blind spots - emotional patterns or behaviors that can get in the way of our healing or fully exploring life’s challenges and opportunities. My role is to provide clinical insight and guidance that is collaborative and respectful, supporting your unique journey toward recovery and growth.

Are you looking to make a shift? I am licensed Marriage and
Family Therapist
working with individuals, couples, families, and groups. I believe therapy can be seen as a process of unpacking. Things often go unsaid, which can manifest into various effects on the body, such as anxiety. Although staying with your emotions can be difficult, it can often be the pathway to healing. My clinical experience has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of our environment and relationships, as well as the positive shifts that can take place when offered supportive and validating resources.

I integrate theory and practice principals from trauma theory, psychoanalytic theory, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy and Internal
Family
Systems to meet the person in front of me with the approaches and tools that will be most useful.
Clients come to me for relief of symptoms of anxiety and depression, and to learn to process how trauma or complex trauma may be impacting their lives today and how to move forward from it. They also seek to gain insight into why they do what they do, to improve their agency or control over their own lives, to learn how to recognize and deal with feelings, to build their self-esteem and to find more pleasure and serenity in their lives. As we work towards the goals clients become ready and willing to make the real behavioral changes that will make a positive difference in their lives.

I also treat
family
issues, and issues related to adolescence.
As I reflect on my many years of practicing psychotherapy , I have found that what has been the most helpful is the authenticity of the therapeutic relationship. This is where you, the client, will learn to trust and open up about yourself. This process of self reflection will help you identify and understand the deeper parts of you. Whether your problem is self esteem,
family
issues, or intimacy , understanding yourself in a meaningful way will allow you to be more content in your daily living. Psychotherapy is a place where you can learn to feel better about yourself.

As a LPC, my goal is to help my clients explore the root of their distress, identify needs and wants and work toward a more balanced life.

The issues people come to therapy to get help with are depression, anxiety, grief and loss, relationship and
family
problems, addictions, communication and work concerns, parenting, child and
family
challenges.
Life can sometimes feel and be very complicated. As a psychotherapist in private practice for 25 years, I work with adults, adolescents, families and couples. The way I approach working with people is to create a compassionate, intelligent, non-judgemental, therapeutic space where a person can feel safe, heard and understood. A person can then be more at ease with talking about their concerns and problems in an authentic and meaningful way. I welcome people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and
family
structures.

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
