I work with individuals, couples, and families, and have treated clients for anger management, anxiety, stress management, depression , trauma, and relationship and communication issues.
"I can, I'm capable, I have the capacity." My goal is to help you recognize these truths and use your strengths to improve your ability to cope with the difficulties you are going through. I view therapy as a collaborative process. Through our relationship, I will learn about your strengths and challenges and help bring you an awareness of both. We will also work on reducing symptoms of anxiety, depression or other roadblocks that are hurting your relationships or preventing you from achieving the things you aspire to. I'm interested in helping you challenge your negative assumptions and/or limitations about yourself.

I believe in the primacy of the nervous system in healing and am trained in experiential, body-oriented trauma treatment including EMDR, IFS and Somatic Experiencing (SE) which provide access to our body’s natural healing system and are particularly effective for healing trauma and stress disorders as well as symptoms of depression and anxiety.
I view therapy as a collaborative process and the bond of trust we create is a powerful tool for healing. I work to create safety to explore challenges together with curiosity and discover creative ways to improve your life. I’m guided by a desire to help you be your most emotionally authentic self, and the healing power of a supportive therapeutic relationship for conducting sustained personal inquiry. I help individuals, families, couples, and adolescents work on communication, relationship issues and repetitive patterns in thinking and behavior.

I enjoy working with individuals on a range of issues such as, but not limited to anxiety, stress, depression , eating and body image problems, transitions throughout the life cycle, relationship concerns, career changes and challenges.
Before going into private practice, I was a Clinical Manager at Mount Sinai Hospital in NYC. After the September 11th attacks, I was retained by major corporations to provide counseling to employees suffering from trauma. In 1993, I co-founded the NYC Balkan Rape Crisis Task Force and traveled to Croatia to provide assistance to war survivors. In addition to my work experience, I have extensive post-graduate training... I have a Certificate from the Women's Therapy Centre Institute in Eating and Body Image Problems and from the Center for Psychotherapy and Psychoanalysis of New Jersey in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy.

Working as a clinical coordinator of a community mental health center has afforded me the opportunity to work with a diverse clientele and to assist them in learning skills to cope with anxiety, depression , panic, grief, borderline personality, stage of life challenges, intrusive thoughts, emotional self regulation, couple’s and interpersonal issues.
My name is Carlo and I am a licensed clinical social worker. My therapeutic approach is to actively listen to gain an understanding of you as a whole person. This is done with the goal of attaining an awareness not only of the issues you face but the strengths you possess which can be tapped into to help enact a collaboratively-developed and individualized plan of action that facilitates reaching your short and long term mental health and personal goals. Depending on the needs and goals of the client, I typically use interventions based in Cognitive-Behavioral, Mindfulness, Psychodynamic and Solution Focused therapies.

I have been a therapist for over 13 years. I recognized it is difficult to have an outsider involved in your issues but there is a time when we are unable to move forward on our own and that is time to seek treatment. My experience are with both children and adults. My goal as a therapist is to help the child or adult through their crisis while teaching coping skills to manage similar issues in the future. The approaches I used in treatment are cognitive behavioral, insight oriented and family systems. I have experience with separation and loss, trauma issues, PTSD, Depression and anxiety.

I specialize in treating anxiety, depression , stress, and insomnia - it is common for them to overlap.
You’re lying in bed and it starts - endless thoughts of what there is to do and what hasn’t been done, what is going wrong or what could go wrong, memories you’re trying not to recall, thoughts of how to ‘fix’ your sleep/anxiety/mood/life, etc. It’s exhausting yet that is exactly the problem; you just can’t seem to disengage enough to fully relax, enjoy, or possibly even sleep. The more you do try to push it away it can seem like the worse it gets or the more limited your life becomes. This is a frustrating paradox particularly for people who want the best for themselves and their lives.

I work with people experiencing anxiety, depression , relationship problems, loss and grief, addiction, and chronic or life-threatening illness. I see myself as a guide so that clients can access their innate capacity to heal and to grow emotionally. I participate actively, giving feedback and collaborating with clients as they learn to empower themselves. The focus is often on "here-and-now" issues, but by delving into the past we can learn to understand and change the repetitive patterns that hinder our lives and relationships.

Many things can trigger a call to a therapist: Overwhelming anxiety, persistent feelings of depression , unfulfilling or problematic relationships at home or at work, or sudden changes in life circumstances (health, financial, or interpersonal). Talking to a therapist in a supportive environment can be very helpful. Therapy helps you figure out what you want to get out of life, identify what gets in your way, and work out new ways of approaching your goals. When you come in regularly to talk, exploring patterns and identifying factors that interfere with achieving goals, your life tends to improve.

Depression Therapists
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
