Over the past 30 years, I have done original research on how couples cope with stress and have had experience working with a broad range of clinical disorders.
If you struggle with Stress, Anxiety, OCD or OCD Spectrum Disorders (BDD, BFRD, Excessive Worry), or are in a relationship with somebody who does, you know that these difficulties impact not only the individual but also relationships with others. This is especially true in marital relationships, parent-child relationships, friendships, or even work relationships.

depression, anxiety, relationship issues etc.
As a therapist, I am interested in your thoughts and feelings as well as your beliefs. I am equally interested in the experiences you had growing up in your family. I look at you both as an individual and as a member of a multigenerational family. I believe past experiences shape the core beliefs we have about ourselves and the world and influence the choices we make in the present. Although therapy often focuses on problems, I believe that good therapy also identifies and builds on a client's existing strengths and resources. Good therapy is a respectful collaboration.

My work with couples concentrates on helping to achieve effective communication and to strengthen their connection in the interest of establishing harmony and satisfaction in the relationship .
Inevitably we all encounter profound disappointments and trauma in our life-time. The resulting pain which lingers, may cause physical or emotional symptoms such as confusion, excessive anger, fear, anxiety, and/or depression. Such symptoms make achieving one's life's goals difficult. The goal of psychotherapy is to relieve these debilitating symptoms. Working with adult individuals, I create an environment that facilitates an honest and open exchange between patient and therapist. My goal is to identify the source of symptoms and to increase my patient's quality of life by restoring a sense of balance of body and mind.

As Ram Dass says, “We're all just walking each other home." This resonates with me as we are interdependent beings, and we have the remarkable ability to make a lasting impression on one another. This is how I view my relationship with my clients. As psychotherapist, I value the opportunity to connect with individual people at a profound level. With proper tools to sit with one's emotions without judgment or expectations, one can truly learn to turn obstacles into opportunities for new beginnings. My approach is collaborative and holistic.

Are you looking to make a shift? I am licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with individuals, couples , families, and groups. I believe therapy can be seen as a process of unpacking. Things often go unsaid, which can manifest into various effects on the body, such as anxiety. Although staying with your emotions can be difficult, it can often be the pathway to healing. My clinical experience has allowed me to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of our environment and relationships, as well as the positive shifts that can take place when offered supportive and validating resources.

I'm in the last year of pursuing my PhD in Counseling Psychology and have 9 years of experience treating trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, couples distress, and a wide range of other responses to stress.
Distress can look very different person-to-person. You may feel anxious in social situations, unsafe because of past trauma, at a loss with your intimate partner , or increasingly concerned about your relationship with alcohol and other substances. Perhaps you're feeling misunderstood or marginalized by others, or facing structural barriers that lead to feelings of helplessness and low self-worth. If any of these circumstances speak to you, it's important to have an affirming space where you can share your experience without judgement, to feel safe and at ease, and to discover new ways of overcoming adversities in your life.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
