I have had the privilege of working with
children
, adolescents, and adults on a wide variety of issues, including depression, anxiety, PTSD, and grief, in both individual and family therapy.
Life brings change and challenges, sometimes without warning or without our permission. Understandably, these periods can be stressful and frustrating for us and for our families. We do our best to respond to the curveballs that life throws at us in order to move forward. Sometimes, we find that we are not able to push forward as well as we'd like to. You are not alone-- and asking for support is okay. Although we can't stop change from affecting our lives, connecting with a trusted professional to share our story is the first step to regaining control and to letting go of some of that weight on our shoulders.

If you have a
child
who worries a lot -- when no matter what you say, no matter how much loving reassurance you try to provide, you can't get through -- it can feel deeply painful and can leave you feeling a little powerless. Kids who worry a lot often don't know how to manage their outsized emotions. As a parent, it can make you feel like you're walking on eggshells, trying to avoid any of your
child
's triggers. You bend over backward to try and shift your
child
’s mood or their perspective, but your
child
continues to struggle. You’re starting to wonder if it's time to get another set of eyes on the situation.

child
experiencing trouble at home or at school or having problems making or keeping friends? Is your
child
acting out or having difficulty managing his/her emotions? Some of these aforementioned behaviors are natural parts of life's transitions, while others can be signs of serious distress. I believe all people can be resilient, but I also believe that it is my job to help give you the tools to be successful. If you have concerns for you or your

I am here to help you or your
child
navigate this process, and get results.
My approach gets measurable results. I teach my clients about their mental health challenge, and they then implement strategies that reduce their symptoms. I am friendly and easy-going, and I love finding creative ways to help clients increase their resiliency, confidence, and self-compassion. My goal is to guide clients in identifying, evaluating, and reframing their negative thoughts, and cultivating behavioral practices that are more supportive and enduring. Motivated clients find CBT extremely helpful because learning about how their brain processes emotions enables them to manage those emotions.

I have been working with

Through this work, I helped my adolescents and young adults develop executive functioning skills, organizational skills, and goal setting to help them transition into their future endeavors. Now, as a Student Assistance Counselor, I work with adolescents in a high school supporting their mental health needs and substance abuse issues. As a LPC, my goal is to help my clients explore the root of their distress, identify needs and wants and work toward a more balanced life.

To parents, their
children
are the most important part of their lives. No one wants to see their
child
struggle. Navigating the difficult years from preteen to adolescent to young adult can be a daunting task. In my work with young people, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help work through issues related to emotional difficulties, academic struggles, and behavioral problems. CBT focuses on learning new ways to think, feel, and behave and addresses pressing issues. As treatment progresses, I want patients to feel more able to utilize new strategies and skills while improving the quality of their life, education, relationships, and experiences.

Child Therapists
Do I need to attend therapy with my child?
Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.
How long are sessions with child therapists?
Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.
How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?
The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.
How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?
A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
