I have also done many trainings in mood disorders, anxiety disorders, couples therapy,
adolescent
therapy, addictions, cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness and energy psychology.
Life can sometimes feel and be very complicated. As a psychotherapist in private practice for 25 years, I work with adults, adolescents, families and couples. The way I approach working with people is to create a compassionate, intelligent, non-judgemental, therapeutic space where a person can feel safe, heard and understood. A person can then be more at ease with talking about their concerns and problems in an authentic and meaningful way. I welcome people from diverse backgrounds, ethnicities and family structures.

Whether you are looking for a therapist for yourself, your child/
adolescent
, or for you & your partner, please call me.
There is something in the human spirit that recognizes that our lives can be changed. A spark of possibility lives alongside our confusion, loss, anxiety, anger or trauma. Working with an experienced therapist provides a chance to access those possibilities, understand ourselves and our circumstances better, and bring about the changes that we want and need.

teen
issues of social media, self-esteem, and peer relationships.

My goal is to provide a warm and supportive space that allows you to share and explore what you need. As your therapist I would take great care in hearing your story and attending to our therapeutic relationship. I work with individuals, couples, and families across a spectrum of identities and backgrounds on their path toward wholeness.

My orientation to psychotherapy is to approach every session as a creative undertaking, whether it is with an individual or a group, a couple or a family, a child, an
adolescent
, or an adult. This is true for every stage of the treatment process, beginning with engagement and problem clarification, with developing a working relationship based on trust, and moving constructively forward in relation to established objectives. The process of each session involves engaging purposefully to facilitate problem resolution, newness, and growth. When appropriate the course of treatment can be as brief as three sessions.

To parents, their children are the most important part of their lives. No one wants to see their child struggle. Navigating the difficult years from preteen to
adolescent
to young adult can be a daunting task. In my work with young people, I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help work through issues related to emotional difficulties, academic struggles, and behavioral problems. CBT focuses on learning new ways to think, feel, and behave and addresses pressing issues. As treatment progresses, I want patients to feel more able to utilize new strategies and skills while improving the quality of their life, education, relationships, and experiences.

Whether you are an adult trying to fit into a world where everyone appears to be successful or a
teenager
who feels completely disconnected, I can help find the peace that comes as you drop harsh self-judgments that block moving from where you are now to where you want to be.
Are you a talented, intelligent, person who walks around with feelings of anxiety depression and shame? Shame, that you feel underwater, that you are not living up to your potential, or that you maybe ruined what should have been a great life? My understanding of shame/resilience is at the core of my work as I believe that shame can significantly contribute to much of the stress and unhappiness we experience. Personally, having changed careers at midlife and walked a path that is unconventional, I deeply understand how shameful it can feel to believe you are an outsider.

I have extensive expertise in trauma work, body image, pregnancy and early parenthood, infertility, and
adolescent
issues.
*I am not accepting new clients* I work with adolescents, adults, couples and families struggling with overwhelming feelings, infertility, pregnancy/postpartum issues, disordered eating/body image, trauma, anxiety, depression or general life obstacles. I believe that the way you view yourself, your relationships with others, and the world is a gateway to the therapeutic experience. My clients would describe my warmth, compassion, use of humor and realism as a recipe for connection and safety within our relationship. I am an active participant during sessions and willing to be vulnerable to move my client to a place of change.

Today, the pace of transitioning from pre-
teen
to young adult can feel as if it has increased over recent years. This is especially prevalent as technology continues to advance and we become more easily connected socially. For many, dealing with life events and the social pressures that bring about depression, anxiety, and other conditions make stress management and coping skills crucial. For those who’ve experienced traumatic events, the window for action is of the utmost urgency in nature.

People often come to my practice when their problems seem daunting and discouraging. If you are reading this, chances are you are either feeling stuck or are in a difficult point in your life. You are in the right place. Therapy can be of great help by helping you pinpoint the issues that need to be worked on and challenging you to make choices that will lead to a more fulfilling life.

Teen Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
