I received Clinical Supervision from Dr Hallowell, pioneer in the field of adult ADHD , and consider myself an expert in working with this population.
At a fundamental level, everyone wants to feel fulfilled in life; to know that they matter, to be loved, and to feel safe. Unfortunately, many people move through life believing that they are powerless, cycling through toxic yet familiar relationships. As a Clinician, my goal is to help you to better understand yourself, so that you can make choices and move through life in a way that facilitates growth, rather than keeps you stuck.

Together, we'll build step-by-step skills, creating gradual wins that add up to accomplishing meaningful goals.
Here we go again. Your teenager's mood is foul and you have no idea why. You've heard, "Oh wait until the teenage years," but didn't realize how tough this would be. There must be a way to help, but it seems like nothing gets them out of their funk. It's hard to watch your child seem so unmotivated, sad, anxious, and irritated. And heaven forbid you'd ask them to complete even the simplest of tasks, which results in a groan like you're telling them to build a house from the ground up. But the worst is when they blame you for it all. If you're giving your teen everything they could ever want, what do they have to be so sad about?

Homeopathy's inexpensive, FDA-approved remedies provide a safe alternative to psychotropic drugs for those suffering from anxiety or depression, and can provide a more gentle option for children challenged by ADHD / ADD .
I begin the collaboration with each person seeking my professional counsel by asking, "What is it you're not getting in your life that causes you pain?" Together, we explore the resources that will allow them to heal, change and grow. During the 30 years I have practiced psychotherapy, from a systemic or holistic perspective, I have assisted individuals, parents, couples, adolescents and caregivers to see and experience their lives differently.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?

You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?

Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

Are there specific medications for ADHD?

Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?

It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
