I specialize in the effects of severe trauma, whether from childhood or adult experiences.
I have been providing psychotherapy for the past 32 years to individuals and couples. I address the hurt, sadness, anger, anxiety and depression you feel and the loss of emotional contact in your important relationships. Sometimes painful loss arises from traumatic shock, and sometimes from the non-traumatic experiences of growing up. I can help you identify your needs and relieve your confusion about what is important, so that you can repair your connection with those you love. Healing is in the therapeutic relationship and the skills I can teach you that can enable you to live a freer life.

I work with individuals facing mental health challenges, addiction, and relationship struggles who are ready for change. Many come feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected, seeking healing and a renewed sense of purpose. At Butterfly Effect, we believe small changes lead to powerful transformation. Our team helps clients build a personalized toolbox of coping, communication, and regulation skills—and most importantly, apply them in real-life moments so growth extends beyond the therapy session.

I work with clients who are looking to heal their wounds from the inside out, specifically focusing on childhood trauma, attachment wounds, and inner child healing.
Life can be challenging and we all have our ups and downs. At times, it can be difficult to move past what is getting in our way of our happiness in order to be our true selves. There is nothing like having an objective outsider that can truly listen in a non-judgmental way, help you to reflect on the situation and factors that may be contributing, and together come up with strategies which can allow you to move forward in a more thoughtful and meaningful way. I am here to be that person for you.

Many of the people I work with carry silent burdens: childhood trauma, unresolved pain, emotional shutdowns, or relationship patterns they can’t seem to break.
I serve a variety of people. Some are men who’ve never been given the space to talk about what really hurts. Others are couples stuck in cycles of conflict, disconnection, or silence. Whatever your story, therapy can be a place to slow down, unpack what’s been weighing you down, and begin to move forward with greater clarity and freedom.

I specialize in childhood trauma, dysfunctional family dynamics, and the relationship patterns that follow into adulthood.
You can't tell the server they got your order wrong, let alone tell your mom you're not coming over for Sunday dinner. You're the one who's there for everyone, but inside you're exhausted, overthinking, and stuck in patterns you're aware of but can't seem to change. You've done the work, and you have good insight. But something still isn't shifting — especially in your relationships and with your family. You're not looking for surface-level coping anymore. You're ready to understand what's underneath and actually respond differently to your family and in your relationships in real time.

As someone who suffered from anxiety & trauma, I can tell you that I spent years looking for the right therapist & I just wanted results.
I could feel trapped fear & anxiety being released from my body. After only 2 sessions I started to see real improvements; I could do things that I wasn’t able to without being triggered or anxious. Having a strong bond with a trauma therapist that had training in these a techniques created a pathway for me to build a life free from the limitations of trauma

I have advanced training in working with TRAUMA & ANXIETY.
Disconnection from your true self is what I see creates many problem areas in people’s lives: unhealthy relationships, weak interpersonal boundaries, lack of self-esteem, panic, anxiety and fear based decisions and behaviors. I help them repair this separation and come back into alignment with who they always have been deep down.

I work with people who may be experiencing anxiety, depression, or trauma related to family, work, or relationships.
Trust your gut. Feeling stuck and unable to fully engage with your authentic self? Or do you find yourself engaging in repetitive behaviors that haven’t served you well and not sure why? Sometimes life experiences can cause us to second guess ourselves and lead us toward less than favorable situations. It happens to the best of us and as a Black and BIPOC therapist, I want you to know that it doesn’t always have to be that way. Often it’s helpful to have the support of a spiritual connection, friends and family. It’s also helpful to have a therapeutic relationship.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists
When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
