I consider myself experienced in working with young women with anxiety , depression, trauma, and Borderline Personality Disorder. I have eclectic experience as a therapist having worked with men and women ages 5 and up on concerns including breakups and divorce, anger management, behavioral concerns, and self esteem. Though I enjoy working with most populations, my passion lies with helping survivors of emotional abuse and sexual trauma rediscover their identities and learn to trust themselves as their own greatest ally. I also hope to help survivors develop a positive view of their bodies, sex, and sexuality.

Over the past decade with individual, group and family therapy, my work with youth and adults has focused primarily on trauma, anxiety , self injurious behaviors, emotional regulation, parenting challenges, family stressors, and intimate partner abuse.
Something brought you to this site today. Whether you’re in the thick of a crisis, haunted by past traumas, stuck in unhealthy patterns, or wrestling with anxiety ...you’re here. Stress and suffering can have huge effects on relationships, health, mood, and everyday life. Feeling overwhelmed is exhausting. Feeling stuck can be so lonely. Being flooded by racing thoughts can leave you feeling hopeless. In therapy we can’t make life stressors go away, and we can’t undo the hurt you’ve experienced. But we can work together to make sense of your past, stay centered in the moment, and move forward confidently into your future.

Additionally, my specialized knowledge of child development, caregiver-child attachment, relational difficulties and anxiety /depression related issues guides the therapeutic process for individuals across the lifespan.
Treating adults, children and adolescents I guide individuals through the process of gaining insight as well as coping skills to make changes that will lead them closer to contentment, happiness, and to achieving their full potential. Being human means experiencing emotions! From birth our life experiences and how we deal with our emotions results in certain patterns of behavior and thinking which can often lead to discontentment, confusion, impulsivity, fear, anxiety , depression, lack of motivation, behavioral and learning issues, etc.

Life is complicated and has many unanticipated challenges. Having the skills to cope with those challenges is necessary in today's world. In addition, negative thoughts or intolerable emotions can result in feelings of anxiety or unhappiness. We can all benefit from having a safe place to share our concerns, and be heard and understood, knowing that you are not alone. My approach is to provide you with the skills and strategies to navigate life. Therapy is not a one size fits all approach, so I draw from a variety of techniques to help you reach your goals. “Pain is inevitable. Suffering is optional." Murakami

*NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS* With over 20 years experience I specialize in trauma, anxiety , depression, and PTSD. These are times of uncertainty, and being forced out of your routine can be difficult. Maybe the "new normal" isn't working. Maybe getting back to normal means deciding which parts of "normal" are worth going back to. Sometimes we just need someone to process our thoughts with. I work in an environment where my clients feel comfortable to share their experiences. First responders are welcome.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
