Are you feeling anxious, alone, depressed, or not finding a purpose in life? Perhaps you lost a loved one. Maybe you had a relationship break-up or job loss. Is your present relationship suffering? Trouble communicating? Have you or your partner experienced a life-threatening injury or illness such as a traumatic brain injury (TBI) or a stroke? Since the injury or illness, do you experience frustration with your recovery? Have you lost hope? We can work together to decrease your anxiety , increase your motivation, and work toward feeling better. Sometimes it takes another perspective when we are going through rough times.

The truth is, my ideal client cannot be defined by a particular diagnosis, gender, or concern; if you're ready to grow, then let's get started! I help my clients recognize where they are, including their strengths, areas in need of improvement, and where they would like to go; and I work with them to get there! I prioritize setting attainable short and long term goals that we can measure and work on achieving. While I specialize in working with young adults with anxiety or depression, life transition issues, and/or LGBTQIA-related struggles, I have experience and work with individuals of all ages and mental health concerns.

I have over 25 years of experience in treating depression, anxiety , bipolar disorders, grief and life transitions.
Although deciding to enter or re-enter therapy is often a difficult decision, it can be the best decision of your life. I am a firm believer that people enter therapy when they are using every skill they know to help themselves feel better or help a situation improve and their efforts are met with failure.

I am only accepting testing clients at this time. Throughout life, many of us will experience some sort of emotional issue. Some we can handle on our own, and others we may want to explore on a deeper level with a specialist. I look forward to working with those who are brave enough to face these issues head on, and to explore some of the underlying reasons why these issues have manifested. I specialize in trauma, PTSD, anxiety , yoga therapy, bariatric evals, LGBTQ concerns, adjustment disorders, as well as testing and assessment (ADHD and PTSD Screenings, neuropsychological and psychological/personality testing with report).

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
