In the settings I constantly and passionately engage in: ambulance, hospital, and community, the question is how does a healthcare provider inform, educate, and support an individual who is neurotypical or neurodivergent experiencing a mental health episode? Having used the medical and wellness models approach, one can say it is designed for individuals who are neurotypical. For individuals who are neurodivergent, it is crucial to determine and effectively utilize the appropriate treatment.

Our relationships determine so much of how we feel and experience life. Committed relationships whether a marriage, premarital, or partnership are constantly growing and changing. Most often, we get into a committed relationship with the hope of experiencing LOVE. In the beginning, we are full of joy and hope though we may have had doubts or fears. Intimate relationships are complicated and life circumstances complicate things even more. We are left to guess our way through it or leave it to chance. And it works as long as it works. Until you find yourself internally hurting and externally yelling...What Should You Do?

Over the course of my career, I have learned ways to uniquely connect with individuals across the lifespan. Working with families, adults, and adolescents, has allowed for the curation of best practice approaches that resonate with the individuals who shared their experiences with me. With motivation and support individuals are encouraged to explore their narratives, challenge self-limiting beliefs, and embrace positive change, thereby embarking on a path to improved mental health and if applicable lasting recovery from addiction.

As a BIPOC therapist, I create a decolonizing, holistic, and culturally sensitive space for healing. I have extensive experience supporting individuals who have experienced family trauma and challenges rooted in family dynamics, often shaped by colonialism, imperialism, and forced migration. I help clients navigate the complexities of their lives—whether as professionals, siblings, parents, friends, or partners—while addressing the impacts of oppressive systems.

I love to work with teens, young adults, and couples. My clients work with me on things like transitioning out of adolescence, exploring identity, handling academic and social issues, reducing anxiety, social phobia, depression, and managing ADHD, PTSD, and relationship issues. I also enjoy creating a safe space for clients coming from a Muslim background. With couples, I draw on Gottman Method techniques to increase emotional connection and communication. See if I am accepting new clients at the moment and book online.

What if you stopped giving fear so much power? Fear tells you to shy away from what you truly want and to censor who you actually are. Over time, hiding and lying can make it hard for you to feel certain about what you want so you wait around for people to tell you what to do. It’s become easy to depend on others to make decisions for you. But you realize that this is not the life you want to lead. You want to trust in yourself and not constantly rely on others for reassurance. You want to be you and I’m here to help you get there.

My practice focuses primarily on men’s health and well-being treating issues such as: anxiety, depression, intimacy and relational issues, trauma, sexual addiction, alcohol and substance abuse, codependency and co-addiction, and issues around identity.
Are you experiencing anxiety, depression, feeling overwhelmed or lost? Maybe you feel unfulfilled in your relationships, career, or other key areas of your life. If you are ready to explore these parts of yourself and interrupt patterns that are no longer serving you, then it may be time to engage in psychotherapy. Psychotherapy is a collaborative process which allows us to look at the areas that are causing distress, and identify ways to adjust your thoughts and behaviors to create positive change. I provide therapy in a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can feel comfortable expressing yourself openly and authentically.

My journey into the field began as a teenager in therapy, igniting a passion for helping others. A pivotal moment came while working as a summer camp music teacher when a young camper in crisis climbed to the roof, threatening to jump. Talking him down safely transformed my perspective: I realized that people need tools to navigate life’s challenges even more than they need to learn new skills like playing the trumpet. That experience redirected my path toward psychology and, ultimately, social work, where I’ve dedicated my career to helping individuals find hope and healing.

Male Therapists

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
