In my practice, I address a variety of issues including anxiety,
OCD
, depression, ADHD, and problems associated with stress, relationships, life transitions, grief, and loss.
As a therapist I work with children, adolescents, adults and their families to improve relationships and decrease family stress. My goal is to leave people with strategies, communication skills, and ways of thinking that can be transferred from the therapy room to everyday life - to parenting, friendships, family dynamics, and just enjoying each moment.

I enjoy working holistically with individuals, from children to older adults, as well as couples/relationships to enhance communication skills and deepen connections. I utilize mindfulness, attachment, and self-compassionate approaches and find a great deal of benefit from incorporating creative interventions, such as the use of art and horticultural therapies. I come to Mindful Therapy Center with prior experience as an early childhood environmental educator and a nonprofit fundraiser, roles which have enriched my empathy, creative thinking, and motivation to serve the wider community.

I have over 30 years of experience working with children, adolescents and their families, as well as individual adults, in independent practice, school and hospital settings. While I work with patients presenting with a wide range of issues and concerns I specialize in working with neurologically or developmentally 'atypical' children and adolescents - ADHD, learning disabilities, autism spectrum, etc. I often work with those neurodevelopmentally atypical children, adolescent and young adults who don't easily fit into these kinds of standard diagnostic categories. I look for and develop strengths, resiliencies and resources.

I have over 20 years of experience helping adolescents, adults, and couples navigate difficult times, confusing and debilitating feelings, and complicated relationships. My treatment approach starts with the client--with the belief that everyone is exquisitely unique--and therefore therapy is not one-size-fits-all. I believe that being genuine with clients is essential; in my office you will find a healing conversation, not talking to a stone wall.

I work with my clients using a variety of approaches in a collaborative effort to help them reach their defined goals. Together we focus on wellness, self-responsibility and empowerment. For over 35 years I have helped individuals who are struggling with depression, anxiety, eating disorders, marital conflict and any other issues contributing to distress. Because I have been in private practice for decades, I have had the benefit of having past clients keeping me informed of their progress, sharing their joys and triumphs through the years.

People create change when they feel heard, validated, and can adjust their thinking to realize the strength hiding inside of them. What I love about being a therapist is the ability to help people develop skills and examine their thought process so they can address life’s challenges, realize their worth and value, and be able to live again. While my specialty is primarily in anxiety/panic disorders, I work in a variety of areas, including creative/entertainment/sports professionals,
OCD
, LGBTQ+ concerns, sex/porn addiction, and anger management. Together, we can navigate your concerns and find the next steps to move you forward.

I also specialize in treating tics, trichotillomania (
hair pulling
) and excoriation (
skin picking
) with Habit Reversal Training.
In any psychotherapy the relationship between the client and their therapist is of paramount importance. With that in mind, I prioritize getting to know each person that I work with in a meaningful way as we engage in the process of symptom reduction. I pride myself on being able to build comfortable discussion with adults, adolescents, and children and tailor communication to best fit each developmental stage. When working with families I ensure that each family members' concern is heard and work to join with each member while remaining focused on addressing the issue which brought them to treatment.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Therapists
How long does OCD treatment take?
OCD is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.
What happens if OCD is not treated?
Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.
Are there medications for OCD?
Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine (under the brand name Luvox), fluoxetine (Prozac), and sertraline (Zoloft), among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.
Can OCD come back after treatment?
Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
