My counseling skills are highly intuitive, informed by my Gestalt training and meditative practices, drawing creatively from a vast toolkit of the world's philosophical & spiritual wisdom traditions and my own decades of scholarship, philosophical, meditative, contemplative, and transformative practices, counseling work, teaching, and practical experience.
Do you have a pressing practical conflict, moral dilemma, or torn decision, not sure which way to go? Are you at a cross-roads, re-evaluating yourself, your life, career, relationship, your religion, or your spiritual path? Are you struggling with meaninglessness, loss of purpose, loss of faith, existential indigestion, philosophical confusion? Do you struggle with the bigger questions: Is life meaningful? Who am I? Why am I here? What should I believe? What is reality? Is this it? Is there anything else? How can I know? How should I live? What is my path? What is my highest good? Do I have a calling? Can I change? What should I do?

org); certified as a Gestalt Therapist and on the Faculty at the Gestalt Center for Psychotherapy & Training (gestaltnyc.
I work with diverse clients and issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, addiction and relationships (including LGBT). Our behavior patterns are our "creative adjustments" to life circumstances that were unresolvable with the resources we had at the time. I facilitate a compassionate self-awareness of "how" we do those patterns, looking to build the resources needed in the present. Change requires a new "experience" in the present and self-compassion is the best predictor of a good therapeutic outcome. Let's focus less on what "isn't" working in your life and more on accessing and building upon what "is" working NOW.

My practice is rooted in Existentialism, and I combine techniques pulled from a variety of evidence-based practices such as CBT, DBT, strength-based, mindfulness, ecotherapy and Gestalt therapy.
Maintaining our mental wellness is just as important as maintaining our physical wellness. Perhaps you are facing a major loss or are having trouble finding motivation to carry out daily tasks of life. For some, there has been a major life event which has left you feeling helpless or without direction. For any person coming into my office, my goal is to create a space which is calming, open, and safe. I specialize in working with clients who are experiencing grief and loss, low motivation, anxiety, depression, and major life changes.

By collaborating with me, we can build an understanding of your struggles and work through embracing meaningful growth and change. My twenty years experience in the mental health field has taught me that the most significant change and healing comes from within the client, and can be fostered through a supportive therapeutic rapport.

Utilizing a wide range of principles from Gestalt psychotherapy, I am dedicated to supporting individuals in their journey to embrace their most authentic selves.
As someone who is neurodivergent, you struggle to connect with others. The constant feeling of being misunderstood often ignites frustration or anger, especially when advocating for your needs. Classmates, coworkers, romantic partners, and even friends have been shaming, rather than supportive. Because of this constant rejection, you have become accustomed to hiding what you are feeling, sensing, experiencing, and thinking. Over time, hiding becomes an instinctual way of trying to remain safe. This results in a pattern of self-doubt, anger, and exhaustion as you try to fit into a world that doesn’t understand your unique needs.

I am experienced in traditional western medicine, expressive therapies, gestalt, and holistic approaches.
Have you been trying to make a change, but feeling stuck? Maybe that job you're in is no longer inspiring, your relationship is no longer fulfilling, or there's a behavior or a habit you just wish you could stop. Trying to make these kinds of changes alone is frustrating, and often leaves us spinning our wheels, but stuck in that same place we know so well. If you sometimes find yourself overthinking, repeating old patterns, and/or getting caught up in self-criticism, you're not alone! Having a warm, compassionate, nonjudgmental, skilled therapist can help you remember your inherent strengths, and regain the balance you seek.

With my extensive training in Gestalt Therapy, I blend this approach with concrete and result-proven strategies from cognitive-behavioral, solution-focused, and mindfulness therapies
I strongly believe in the power of therapy. I am convinced that the quality of one’s life can be drastically improved even in the worst cases of mental health disorders. I speculate that if only people knew how tremendously their lives could be improved, they would not hesitate a single second and would find assistance right away.

I am dedicated to learning what it means to treat trauma effectively using experiential models such as Coherence Therapy, IFS, and Gestalt methods.
You’ve been called “self-aware” but still feel stuck. You have a hard time opening up to people and may even feel like it’s hard to trust others. Maybe you have all the coping skills in the world, but you’re exhausted trying to cope through life every day. You’re no stranger to self-blame, shame, and self-sabotage. I want to help you get at the root of your struggles so that you can enjoy your life, instead of coping through it. You'll discover why life has gone the way it’s gone, and solidify new ways of approaching yourself and your relationships, whether personal or professional.

Gestalt Therapists

What is gestalt therapy?

Gestalt therapy is based on the idea that to address unresolved negative feelings, emotions must be not only discussed but also actively expressed in the present moment. The term is from a German word meaning “whole,” and gestalt therapists believe that people should be considered whole entities made up of mind, body, and emotions. Gestalt sessions are rooted in the notion that a client’s total self must be discovered, explored, and confronted, so that they can take greater responsibility for themselves and their behavior, learn to satisfy their own needs while still respecting the needs of others, and reconnect with feelings they might otherwise deny.

How does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy sessions do not just involve talking with a therapist. Clients may take part in role-playing, re-enactment, or artistic exercises like drawing and painting, with the goal of becoming more aware of negative thought patterns that limit happiness. One common gestalt exercise is “the empty chair,” in which a client sits across from an empty chair representing a partner, relative, boss, or a part of themselves—and, with the therapist’s encouragement, improvises a dialog with it. The intention is to bring the emotions raised by past conflicts into the present and work through them in the moment.

How long does gestalt therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for gestalt therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. New patients should understand that it may take some time to become comfortable with gestalt exercises but once they do, they should expect sessions to extend for a number of months, typically spanning at least 12 sessions.

Does gestalt therapy work?

Gestalt therapy has generally been found to be as effective as other forms of talk therapy in helping people living with anxiety, depression, phobias, bipolar disorder, and substance use disorders, as well as helping individuals reduce conflict in relationships. Gestalt techniques, on their own or in combination with other therapies, can also be effective in managing physical ailments including ulcerative colitis, migraines, and back spasms. It should be noted that some people may have trouble adapting to gestalt therapy’s lack of formal structure or to a therapist’s close observations of their body language and emotions; others may struggle to commit to techniques that feel unnatural, like the empty chair exercise.
