My approach is client centered, strengths based and trauma informed. I specialize in trauma treatment. The impact of trauma and mental illness on men is rarely a social conversation. Needless to say men are likely to go for decades without seeking help and suffer in silence. This is where I bring years of experience working with men struggling with trauma. I also have worked with women's issues , trauma, depression, anxiety, and specialized in addictions for over a decade. Perhaps you are experiencing depression amidst caring for a loved one who is struggling with a addiction, mental illness or co-occurring issues.

At times, unconscious patterns get in the way of being your best self. Work, school, relationships, health, family, addiction, or financial stressors affect your daily life. Maybe you need a confidant, coach, or ally, to help guide you through difficult times and manage day to day stress. I believe that by building increased insight and awareness into these patterns leads to emotional growth, emotional wellbeing and mental resilience.

What do you see when you look into the mirror? If you see anything other than exactly who you are or who you want to be, accepting all your flaws for the uniqueness they are meant to be, and find that this is getting in the way of living your best life, you are in the right place. I am a dually licensed Professional Counselor and Drug & Alcohol Counselor with certifications in trauma training. My approach to counseling is to provide the space for you to explore who you are while providing guidance in your journey. This allows you to find the core issues that led to any unhappiness or struggles holding back authentic living.

Reaching this new chapter of life felt like a milestone and you couldn't wait to get started. But now that you're here, your brilliant future is a blank page. Where do you even begin? It's so overwhelming that you get caught up in the day-to-day tasks, taking care of others, procrastinating, doom-scrolling... You never really get to the thing that moves your own story forward; not that you even know what that "thing" would be. So instead you end up spinning with anxiety or beating yourself up with words you wouldn’t say to an enemy. You feel the clock ticking. Everyone else is making plans, leveling up... Why can’t you get unstuck?

Therapy, I believe, is a collaborative process through which I work with clients to progress toward well-being and an authentic engagement with life. As we address therapy goals that may involve reducing distress caused by symptoms, dealing with acute or longer term issues, or old patterns that are holding you back from growth, I listen for your voice, and seek to empower you to take ownership of your life and its direction. I strive to create a safe, accepting environment, where we work toward ameliorating distress, enhanced self-understanding, healthier choices, and living a more mindful, valued life.

Throughout life we must develop a relationship with ourselves. During difficult times, we find that relationship can be negative and draining due to our experiences or thought processes. My aim as a therapist is to build a positive and uplifting sense of self with room for growth and changes over time. It is my goal to help clients feel comfortable, happy, and safe in their relationships with themselves. Oftentimes, this involves resolving issues of past and present by creating a harmony among mind, body, and spirit.

You are more than your current circumstance. All of us inevitably faces various life transitions, crises, and challenges that test our sense of satisfaction with life, our relationships with others, and our relationship with ourselves. Often our "unhappiness" takes the form of worry, confusion, sadness, hurt, betrayal, disappointment, frustration, and loneliness. Therapy is an avenue to help explore what you are going through and can provide an experience that is supportive, empowering, will make a difference in your life.

We all want to feel that we are in control, alive and balanced. The reality is we can get stuck, confused, and in need of help. Feelings of frustration, hurt, doubt, worry, sadness, self-blame, or loneliness can set in. In other words, we become “unhappy.” We want to feel that we have a choice. A choice that will make things better whether it is for ourselves, our relationship, or our children.

For years It has been my privilege to work with women of all ages navigating life transitions and hardships such as separations, troubled relationships (with a partner, family or friends, or one's body), navigating the roller coaster of motherhood, or experiencing a loss. Regardless of our experiences, beliefs, or social circumstances, we all fight the silent and lonely battles of not feeling we are enough. As women, we are often subjected to conflicting and competing expectations about love, sex, parenting, work, and relationships. In the face of such imposing outside opinions, it is essential to check in with yourself:

When people are in emotional pain, they usually try to "fix it" themselves. Making the decision to see a therapist often occurs when they have run out of options. I believe that seeking professional help is an action of hope. I can listen to people's pain because of my profound belief that therapy offers a second chance for a more satisfying life. Through the process of therapy, I can offer a more satisfying life to people who are experiencing relationship issues, depression, anxiety, unhappiness with their lives and couples who are having difficulty in their relationships.

Women's Issues Therapists

How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?

Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?

Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
