I enjoy working with individuals who want to overcome adverse experiences, who are looking to establish a secure sense of self, and who would like to manage stress caused by challenging thoughts or feelings. I believe that addressing these needs will allow clients to get the most out of life. I believe that as humans, we are created to live in community with one another. Challenging life experiences can leave some feeling disconnected from others and uncertain about their own place in the world.

My ideal patient is one who is eager to communicate. A patient who believes that change is possible and wants to make mistakes. My patient is one who believes that mistakes create success. My patient's goals are manageable, sustainable, and focused. I like a patient who recognizes therapy as a process that takes time. Change takes patience, consistency, and experience. I believe that their exploration can be of themselves, as well as the things outside themselves they want to work on. The phrase "Know thyself" is an important component of my work. As the patient learns to make changes, they also learn to master themselves.

Taking the steps to find a therapist can be overwhelming, but making the decision to take those steps is the hardest part. Recognizing that there is a need for support is a sign of strength & courage. I believe that building a therapeutic relationship & providing a safe environment are the two most important elements in therapy. My goal is to establish those elements in efforts to guide & empower clients towards personal growth & achievement. Life can be challenging; getting help doesn't have to be. Balancing family, work/school, and personal relationships can be a daily struggle. Trying to make the time to care for one's self can be difficult. Sometimes we need an objective person to help navigate us through these struggles so that we can see more clearly and reach our true potential. I believe that each one of us holds the answers to our own questions and we just need a quiet, safe environment to access that part of us. I am honored to be that person for my clients.

I enjoy working alongside those who need assistance with anxiety and related disorders. These issues can make you feel like your whole body is affected - it can leave you feeling isolated, scared, angry, or stuck. We all go through challenging times and are faced with difficult uncertainties. If you desire a relief from the often times debilitating "what-ifs", I would like to help. It's my goal to provide a non-judgmental, safe, and supportive space where we can begin to understand the root of what triggers your fears and thoughts. We may explore how the past impacts you today and how you view the world and those around you.

Therapy as a collaborative process in which we work together to understand the problems that have brought you in, and work towards mutually established goals. Psychotherapy involves verbalizing your thoughts and feelings, exploring relational and behavioral patterns, and learning how past experiences may impact you now. Through this process we strive to gain greater awareness of how both conscious and unconscious processes play out in your emotional and relational life. Ultimately, therapy can help individuals come to better understand themselves and enjoy greater choice in their lives.

Life is unpredictable, one day everything runs smoothly and the next day it is bumpy. Most of the bumps are manageable, but occasionally the bumps are too big, or too many and can't be handled alone. This is a good time to look for support, to find someone with a different perspective or resources. Budd Therapy was founded to help you navigate those bumps that you can’t smooth out alone. I use a holistic approach, providing you with a safe, comfortable, and compassionate environment to explore your thoughts and feelings, to find your balance.

How can I find a therapist in Hillsborough?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
