I partner with clients struggling with Depression, Anxiety, PTSD , complex- PTSD , Dissociative Disorders and impulsive behaviors.
Trust is the most important part of any relationship. It's important to be able to trust others but more importantly to trust yourself. “The true key is trust in self, for when I trust myself I fear no one else, I took control of my life, just as anyone can, I want everyone to see it’s in the palm of your hand, the past is gone, the future yet unborn, but right here and now is where it all goes on”-MCA Beastie Boys. With trust you can increase your connection to others as well as increase your ability to tolerate life’s ups and downs and enjoy life in the moment.

Whether it is anxiety, depression, trauma , life transitions, or a different area of concern, I will work with you to guide and empower you to reach your goals.
It is easy to wear a mask to the world and pretend everything is okay- it is even expected for some of us. However, this wears us down to the point where even the smallest of changes in our daily lives can make us overwhelmed. We should not have to pretend to be something different for the sake of appearing "okay" or pleasing others. I have been there. Acceptance and healing is a long and tough road to navigate, and I am here to guide you.

From my years working with survivors of trauma , I believe that therapy can be a path to self-compassion: accepting and understanding your story, emotions and how you have learned to survive.
If you're reading this, I invite you to take a moment and breathe. May you receive this affirmation: "I am glad that you are here." It may have been a long journey: painful and lonely, confusing and frustating, and maybe even scary and hopeless. That you have made it here, is something to uplift. It is not easy to be known by those around you, and sometimes most of all, to be known to yourself.

I use a trauma -informed approach to explore each individual's story in order to help with cognitive coping, forgiveness of self, and empowerment.
The things we experience affect us more than we think. Maybe you felt neglected as a child, are experiencing bullying, lost a family member, or are in an emotionally and/or physically abusive relationship. Maybe you have signs of unhealed trauma (depression, anxiety, low self-worth, relationship trouble, substance abuse, etc.) but don't realize you've experienced trauma . You could feel uncertain about why you feel this way and want to explore that. Trauma is very subjective. Every person is affected by and reacts to adverse events differently. This can lead you to feeling hopeless for the future and can be incredibly isolating.

I have specialized training in treating PTSD , Complex PTSD and Dissociation using a relational approach along with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT).
My practice is based on the understanding that many clients have suffered overwhelming, traumatic, or adverse childhood experiences regardless of whether they are coming to therapy specifically due to these experiences. With compassion and care, I approach every session from a trauma informed lens. Instead of asking, "What is wrong with you?" I explore, "What have you experienced in your life and how might these symptoms be a response to it?"

Welcome! My belief in the healing potential of psychotherapy is grounded in the decades of research on attachment, trauma and the body, and relational neuroscience. Our early relationships and experiences, including trauma , form the lens through which we experience our day-to-day lives. By understanding distressing patterns in our here-and-now functioning as remnants of protective and adaptive functioning in early life, we can move towards change from a place of self-compassion and deep understanding.

I work with the general public - individuals and couples with a wide range of issues, with sub-specialties in sexual dysfunction, trauma and with the LGBT population.
My work is a vocation, not a job. I love being a therapist because it allows me to connect with diverse people in a deep, meaningful way and to have the privilege of trying to help them on their unique journeys. I'm a diplomate in sex therapy as well as a licensed psychologist, and I am trained in EMDR, hypnotherapy, and two methods of couples counseling as well. I pride myself on keeping up with the most current developments in my field because I owe it to the people I'm trying to help.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
