Imagine being able to feel calm and at ease. To have peace of mind and not having to worry about so many different things. Imagine not worrying about what will be in the future and having guilt and regret of the past.

Imagine you're in a brightly lit, comfortable and spacious room with lots of natural light pouring in. It's very easy to see and feel safe. Suddenly the windows go black blocking the sun light, the lights in the room go off and you can't see a thing. The sense of spaciousness gives way to pitch black darkness and you since you can't see you're too scared to move. The first thing you need to do is calm down if you feel fear or anger. If you feel paralyzed you need to start believing in yourself. Once you can think straight, you can start taking steps towards finding a way to create light and dispel the darkness.

If you are struggling after a loved one's death or you are part of the "sandwich generation" caring for multiple generations often simultaneously, I can help. I have 20 years of experience working with adults who are stressed because of depression, anxiety and grief. If you are grieving what "might have been" if you or your spouse didn't have an illness, know that you do not have to bear this burden alone. I have extensive experience working collaboratively with adults, older adults and their families as they navigate the complexities of life related to loss, illness, aging, or care giving.

People seek my help because of a troubled relationship or feelings of anxiety or depression caused by some important life disappointment. They are often internally conflicted about how to deal with their distress and seek understanding and guidance from a supportive professional. For men the focus is often on helping them become more emotionally self-aware and attentive to their partners; for women it often means helping them find ways to be more assertive and clear about their needs.

The majority of my clients are adults who are seeking ways to manage depression and anxiety, which may be acute (short-term) or chronic (long-term). The most common issues are associated with relationships, family dynamics, adjustment to new situations, bereavement and end-of-life care. I also work with those caring for loved ones with dementia and other long-term illnesses.

Life can be challenging. We all go through difficult times, get confused, feel stressed, experience loss. Some of us seek therapy because we suffer from depression, anxiety, illness and relationship problems; others may simply feel 'stuck" in some way. As a therapist with over 30 years of experience, my goal is to create a safe and supportive environment to guide clients to explore their needs, identify their strengths, gain a better understanding of what is and is not working in their lives, and to provide strategies to help them solve problems and achieve a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

"Yesterday’s the past, tomorrow’s the future, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the present.” Learning to center ourselves in the here and now and be truly present in the moment is where we begin to connect with who we are beyond the influences and complications of the world around us. From there, we begin the journey to find peace no matter what in our lives may trouble us.

If painful experiences were met with confusing or anxious responses from others or described in manners that did not respond to emotional needs, then a child or individual would likely cope with difficulties by disconnecting from the threatening emotional meanings. We need another at times, or search for a healing process. If you have been struggling with strong feelings or a particular situation, it is time to get help. You can find the way through fears, loss or other struggles. I am here to support you through your struggles, through personal hardships, finding truths or make sense of confusion in your mind or life.

I work with individuals, couples, and families who are feeling emotionally stuck in relationship patterns that cause stress and diminish functioning. They are often depressed, anxious, and feel hopeless. Encouraging them to observe their behavior and listen to their hearts are the first steps towards change. Asking about family history, culture, and legacies that have been transferred through generations engages them expand their understanding of the present situation. Focusing on their strengths, and on building positive connections with those who love them helps them gain control and decide what really matters in their lives. They feel stronger and hopeful.

Therapy is about feeling better. It's a learning process. It requires a comfortable atmosphere, conducive to talking and expressing inner feelings. I try to create this environment by offering respect, sensitivity and compassion. I bring enthusiasm, and hope to the therapeutic process, as well as insight and creativity. This, in turn, helps one to develop an understanding of one's self and one's circumstances, and thus, the process of change begins, where one can acquire an ability to tackle whatever the challenge may be.

FREE CONSULT. Do RESULTS matter to you? Everyone I see has OCD, Panic, Agoraphobia, PTSD, or Social Anxiety. These conditions are extremely treatable with the RIGHT kind of DRUG-FREE CBT Exposure therapy. I aim to eliminate symptoms, not just treat or manage them. Clients are liberated to move on with life--get married, prevent divorce or firing, have families, advance or change careers, resume friendships, return children to school--often in the middle of therapy. Therapy doesn't stop at the door. I contact my clients after every session to check on them.

How can I find a therapist in Highland Park?
Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
What type of therapist is right for me?
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.
Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.
What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
